Summer's officially out, and it's been a summer of CEO shakeups. The freshman crop of CEOs took different paths to the top. There's been a lot of good vibes around Nike’s CEO for starting as an intern, and bad vibes around the CEO of Starbucks for flying a private jet to work every week after being poached from Chipotle. With all that excitement, the CEO swap at Nestle flew under the radar. This Saturday, I did some research into how CEOs at the top consumer goods companies got their jobs. 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 = 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💼 Brian Niccol is an exception. Most consumer brand CEOs have one-company careers. ⌛ Jon Moeller (P&G): 36 YEARS at the same company ⌛ Laurent Freixe (Nestlé): 30 years ⌛ Ramon Laguarta (PepsiCo): 28 years of dedication All of them worked at the company in some capacity before becoming CEO. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 🌎 Almost all these CEOs have led the business across multiple continents before rising to the top. 🛩️ Laurent Freixe (Nestlé): France ➡️ Hungary ➡️ Europe ➡️ Americas ➡️ Latin America 🛩️ Michel Doukeris (Anheuser-Busch InBev): China ➡️ Asia Pacific ➡️ North America 🛩️ James Quincey (The Coca-Cola Company): Latin America ➡️ South Latin ➡️ Northwest Europe ➡️ Europe Personal stability sacrificed for career. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗽𝗮𝗱𝘀 🚀 Most of these big-brand bosses kicked off their careers in two key areas: 💰 Finance: P&G, JBS, and Unilever 🎯 Sales: Nike, PepsiCo, and Anheuser-Busch Surprisingly (or not so much) only 3 of them had MBAs. But the one thing that they all share? After Indira Nooyi retired at Pepsi, they’re all men!
