Join Scott Edwards Architecture and Kurt Fischer Structural Engineering next Wednesday, July 24th, as we co-present "Reconsidering What's Possible: How Adaptive Reuse Can Make More Housing" as part of AIA Oregon's Digital Design Series. The Reconsidering What’s Possible presentation will be given by Architects and a Structural Engineer with direct experience in the adaptive reuse of existing buildings, everything from motels, office buildings, and supermarkets into transitional and supportive housing, shelters, and affordable housing. Attendees can expect to learn common design considerations encountered during adaptive reuse and leave with examples for anticipating and navigating them. The speakers will share how designers can have a direct impact in leading solutions for issues like the housing shortage by recommending targeted policy changes and getting creative. About us
Scott Edwards Architecture is a firm built on the premise that innovative design solutions result from a collaborative effort between architect, client and craftsperson. We lead our clients on an exploration of possibilities guided by traditional principles of design clarified through a contemporary perspective. Each project begins by understanding the opportunities and constraints, then establishing strategies that will guide the creative process. Our office believes that the end result of the design process should be a project that truly reflects the unique needs and desires of the client, is sensitive to site, and is technically sound.

Scott Edwards Architecture was proud to sponsor NOMA PDX's 2024 Project Pipeline, a multi-day architecture camp for middle school students held last month. This year's program was the most attended yet, with 47 students joining the camp over its three days at Portland Community College's Opportunity Center. During the camp, students learned about architecture, planning, and design, and for some, it may have been their first introduction to the subjects. This year, they worked together to envision places to live, learn, gather, grow food, recreate, and heal in the commercial zone on NE 42nd Ave and NE Killingsworth, discussing how design can be used to support residents in Portland's Cully neighborhood.

Scott Edwards Architecture provides architecture, interior design, and planning services for wineries, tasting rooms, and vineyard homes throughout the Pacific Northwest, so when we have the opportunity to sponsor and attend events that showcase winemaking, we love to do so! In these spaces, we compose architectural moments that refer to the craft, elevating the tremendous effort poured into wine production and celebrating the result. Our approach is to create an immersive and welcoming experience that invites people to be fully present, and our design solutions expertly balance form and function. Here are a few upcoming wine-focused events we're excited to participate in—we hope to see you there 🍷 July 14th: Alt Wine Fest July 16th: Women in Wine Oregon Conference July 18th - 20th: Urban Land Institute Cascadia Regional Conference, UNCORKING THE FUTURE: Hospitality and Housing in the Willamette Valley #architecture #winerydesign #wineryhome #wineryarchitecture #tastingroomdesign #tastingroomarchitecture #oregonwinecountry #experientialdesign #restaurantdesign #hospitalitydesign #hospitalityarchitecture #pacificnorthwest

As part of the 2024 Alt Wine Fest, Scott Edwards Architecture is reprising our role as the designer of the festival’s wine-and-music-inspired temporary installation. Last year, the installation design pulled from punk music iconography. This year’s installation will also be steeped in musical inspiration but presented on a bigger and more ambitious scale. Alt Wine Fest is this Sunday, July 14th, in Carlton, Oregon—are you attending? If so, we'll see you there! ECCO Leather’s new Pacific Northwest outpost resides in a Portland garage building that has had many chapters over its one hundred years. Scott Edwards Architecture’s approach prioritized stripping away layers of use to reveal an open and adaptable space suitable for the brand’s working showroom—a scaled manufacturing lab, complete with specialty European equipment, supports hands-on demonstration to potential clients, and a place for collaborative research and development. The design embraces the existing industrial texture, creating an aesthetic engaging in its own right while still minimal enough to act as a backdrop to showcase ECCO Leather’s world-class products. Fried Egg I'm In Love stays true to its food cart roots while bringing a rock n’ roll feel to a modern diner. Scott Edwards Architecture partnered with our client to craft the themes that informed the narrative-led design, including bringing the “window into the city” perspective from the food cart to this brick-and-mortar location, ensuring customers feel connected to the kitchen, and vice versa, and capturing the nostalgia of a home-cooked breakfast. The themes are translated into the space using a layering of architectural and branding elements, from the sequencing of zones and overlay of music iconography to the materiality and the thoughtful placement of tchotchkes—all contribute to a vibrant, textured, and very Portland, experience. 🏗️: Joseph Hughes Construction Company 📸: Josh Partee #architecture #restaurantdesign #hospitalitydesign #hospitalityarchitecture #restaurantinteriordesign #portlandrestaurantdesign #portlandrestaurantarchitecture #friedeggiminlove #portlandoregon #portlandor #portlandrestaurant #pnw #moderndinerdesign #brunchinportlandoregon
