Congratulations to Thunder Valley Casino Resort on their 4,500-seat permanent performance venue that replaces the temporary facility for music, comedy, and other live entertainment. Positioning the bars at the front edge of the seating area is a highlight that drew its inspiration from the temporary outdoor space so patrons don’t miss a minute of any live entertainment while placing drink orders. The OTJ and Schuler Shook design teams also took great care to design exceptional sightlines for this large venue. Integration was the winning approach to the architectural lighting design schemes. The architectural lighting within the venue can be controlled by the show console, allowing the color-changing architectural accents to be integrated with the show lighting, if desired. And no venue is complete without well-planned back of house spaces and operations. Features that most guests will never see include a dedicated path, separate from stage operations, to transport catering or merchandise to the lobby; a large lift at the front of the stage to move production equipment into the auditorium; and deep storage ‘drawers’ under the stage that hold approximately 700 portable chairs, allowing the flat floor zone to be easily reconfigured or cleared for specific events. The Thunder Valley Casino Resort project administration and production teams were terrific collaborators. In addition to OTJ Architects, the design and construction team included...
