Last week, SCALE was represented at the 37th Electric Vehicle Symposium in Seoul! #EVS37 The highly anticipated EVS37 Conference in Seoul brought together participants from across the four corners of the planet to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in electric vehicle technology. The SCALE consortium used this opportunity to share our project's results: ⚡ Edwin Bestebreurtje from FIER presented #policies for effective public recharging infrastructure in the EU for a full BEV transition. ⚡ Baerte De Brey presented David Steen (Chalmers University of Technology) poster on the #Gothenburg use case, more specifically on the vehicle-to-everything profitability for a single-family home in Sweden. It explored the potential for users to maximize profitability by integrating vehicle-to-home technologies in a domestic setting. ⚡The SCALE project also received accolades at the conference, winning an award for the Best Oral Presentation. Baerte De Brey was acknowledged for his submission, "V=X: Specifications and definitions for building interoperable use cases." His presentation emphasized the importance of establishing standardized specifications and definitions to facilitate interoperability among various electric vehicle use cases. 👏 With over 330 presentations delivered across a wide range of topics, the EVS37 Conference provided an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. See you next year in #Gothenburg for EVS38!

Yesterday, we had our 3rd Advisory Board meeting in Oslo! 👉 Our Advisory Board is supporting us along the SCALE journey to find solutions to our key challenges. They are leading professionals working all along the electromobility value chain in Europe, from CPOs, OEMs, and research institutes to local authorities, associations, and public transport operators. Together, we delved into business models for V2X charging, regulatory frameworks at national and EU levels, and cities' challenges to lead smart charging and V2X, notably with an in-depth case study of Gemeente Utrecht with its procurement processes and requirements for V2G charging. 𝟰 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀: 🔹Technically speaking, V2X and smart charging are (almost) ready. The key challenge at hand is finding suitable #business models for the mobility, energy, charging, and parking services linked to smart charging and V2X. 🔹#Standards are still in a grey zone in the EU; we need to have clear, aligned, and enforced standards that keep things simple to foster innovation. We also need to be aware of the standards other EV powerhouses are developing (USA, China, India, etc.). Standards should not just be established in a top-down manner by the EU (although this is crucial), but they should also be created in a bottom-up way such as the successful OCPP protocol. 🔹For public #authorities, procuring smart or V2X charging is challenging, especially for smaller cities or regions because they may have less capacity and time to dig into the requirements that would make their public charging network smart and future-proof. They need clear minimum standards and capacity-building to procure smart charging that they can rely on. Pooled procurement with neighbouring towns and cities can also be a valuable solution. 🔹 Let's put #users in the centre! They need to have transparent and accessible information on what smart charging and V2X offer to ensure a high acceptability rate. There are still many fears of battery degradation or data privacy concerns, users need to be reassured with fact-based communication and they need to benefit from these services to be on board.
