501(c)(3) regenerating the world's grasslands by training farmers, & connecting brands with verified regenerative supply
About us
Savory Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Boulder, Colorado with 50 regional learning Hubs around the globe. Founded in 2009, the Institute has trained over 16,000 farmers, ranchers, and pastoralists and influenced management of over 21 Million hectares of grasslands through the adoption of Holistic Planned Grazing – a process that mimics ancestral grazing patterns of wild herbivores that co-evolved with healthy grassland ecosystems. Developed by Allan Savory in the 1960’s, Holistic Management (HM) has been proven in a wide variety of contexts to regenerate grasslands, build soil, increase biodiversity, and sequester significant amounts of carbon while also improving social and economic outcomes. The Savory Global Network is comprised of regionally-based Savory Hubs (learning centers), Accredited Professionals (field educators), and Regenerating Members (recurring monthly donors) which together are our scale-up mechanism for increasing adoption. Savory Hubs are all locally owned and locally operated training centers that, through Accredited Professionals, provide HM training, resources, and implementation support to local farmers and ranchers. With an intimate knowledge of local culture, economy, policies, and environment, Hubs are able to mentor producers and help them implement these regenerative management practices in a contextually-specific manner that is relevant to their region. The Savory Global Network currently operates across six continents training, equipping, and mentoring roughly 10 new Hubs per year. Since 2009, we have achieved the following impact: • 50 Global Hubs • 16,000 farmers/ranchers/pastoralists trained • 21 million hectares of land holistically managed Savory’s goal is to regenerate global grasslands and make a significant dent in carbon drawdown before it is too late. Through a growing global network, this goal is not just achievable, but necessary to create a livable planet for many generations to come.

Bare ground is public enemy #1. Let’s do something about it.
Same spot. Same time of year. Years ago. The difference? Switching from reductionist management & reductionist thinking—What do I put in to get what I need back out?—to Holistic Management and holistic thinking—How do I participate in this evolved system for the benefit of all? #regenerativeagriculture #holisticplannedgrazing #savoryhub

Save the grasslands. Save the planet.
How long can we treat the Patagonian grasslands like the field at the right? The field on the left has holistic planned grazing, and it is sequestering carbon while feeding healthy sheep. Bad grazing practices and deep indiference are causing massive desertification. Consequences include 30% of farms abandoned.. rural depopulation... closed abbatoirs... This is a call for action: we do not have much time to waste...

Yesterday, I attended an event where Allan Savory shared his perspectives on the state of the world’s natural ecosystems and wanted to highlight some of his thought-provoking points here. 1️⃣ Our #agriculture is in terrible shape due to unaccountable and extractive institutions. The key issue here is how we develop policies. Decisions lack context. 2️⃣ Subsidies and grants do more harm than good to #farming. Farmers are paid to do the wrong thing. 3️⃣ Under the Soviet influence, Moscow’s bureaucrats were telling Hungarian farmers what and how to grow. Today, it is the European Union’s bureaucrats from Brussels deciding what is allowed and what is not, neglecting any holistic approach. 4️⃣ We produce millions of things but we are incapable of managing our institutions/societies. It's an overwhelming mass. 5️⃣ And last but not least the most important tenet: address the cause, not the symptoms! Allan is one of the leading voices in #regenerativefarming and the founder of the Savory Institute. He's a controversial figure. However, I think every great mind has controversial arguments. And it's not bad per se. It sparks debate which eventually moves our society forward.

Happy Earth Day everyone! I recently spoke at UGG headquarters for a staff event. Afterwards we went in the retail store they have on site. Seeing all the different boots labeled regenerative, with the Land to Market seal on them was an absolute highlight of my career. It almost made me emotional right there in the store, I had to play it cool, but it was very special. Ugg and other brands around the world are working hard to be example of how business can and must lead if humanity is going to continue with a civilization as we have known it. And it was so humbling to see a logo I helped choose on such a pop culture icon like Ugg boots. I felt in awe knowing there were countless committed individuals on the brand team that worked to make these products a reality. I am proud to personally know many of the farmers first-hand from the Atkins Ranch group that grew the lambs. And as I stared at those boots I couldn’t help but think of the broader Land to Market team that works so passionately and tirelessly to make this work easier for brands every day. While it was very a small moment in time it was one I’ll never forget. Happy Earth Day!

You asked for it, so now you've got it! We're offering our first-ever, full comprehensive Holistic Management course in English at the ranch this summer! Spend your holidays with us digging deep into holistic decision making, holistic planned grazing and the whole works. We'll BBQ, eat fresh ranch-raised food, you'll get to know holistic management and the ranch intimately, we'll learn from each other (and from us), and we'll have a whole lot of fun while we're at it! So whether you've been looking for ways to get your accreditation through the Savory Institute, wondering how to pivot your career towards regenerative agriculture, or you're looking for a different kind of holiday in the beautiful Spanish countryside, there's no doubt you'll find what you're looking for at Curly Creek Ranch. Meals and lodging are included at the ranch (space is limited, however, so make sure to register early), and there will be a one-day break in the middle to enjoy San Fermín down in Pamplona about a half hour away (the famous Running of the Bulls), or avoid the chaos and head just 45 minutes north to the beach in San Sebastian. Once in a lifetime memories are guaranteed! https://lnkd.in/dgb7qDuh #holisticmanagement #regenerativeagriculure #alwayslearning #ranchlife #navarra #navarratourism #regenag #pasturemanagement #holisticplannedgrazing Meghan Sapp Bobby Gill Caroline Odoz
