A few weeks ago we had an incredible week at the Breakthrough Energy Ventures Summit in London. Thanks again to all the BEV teams for inviting us to speak and showcase our technology and vision for a delicious and sustainable food future. Thank you to so many great people, leaders and companies who attended, shared their progress and made the event impactful and unforgettable! One of many highlights from the event is that we had the chance to speak with Madeleine Cuff with New Scientist, who published this article about us yesterday---thank you Madeleine & New Scientist. Here's to a brighter, happy, tasty and decarbonized future. #BESummit2024

"Real honey and real butter, just without the cows and bees" Darko Mandich from MeliBio combined his bee-free honey with our butter. It's wonderful to have strong allies in the fight for a kinder and climate-friendly food system, and it's pretty awesome when our products combine into something yummier than the sum of its parts 💚 https://lnkd.in/giHBqYBr

Yes!! Butter is best shared with friends.
Fresh off taking a break and starting to think about what's next for me in my career at the intersection of climate and entrepreneurship
After eating our various Savor butter prototypes internally for a good while, it is so fun to finally share with others outside the company. And it's a special joy to share with friends who are also trying to build a better food system. In this video, Beth Zotter from Umaro Foods got to taste our latest butter prototype. She, in turn, served me her very yummy bacon made with protein from red seaweed 💚 https://lnkd.in/gysCC2VF

Thank you, Bill Gates, for highlighting fat as a significant climate problem. Quantifying this problem motivated Savor's mission to help build a decarbonized, resilient food system. If you'd like to dig deeper into this big Fat climate problem, we'd recommend this piece by our CTO Kathleen C. Alexander: https://lnkd.in/gbhf2z9U
Each year, the world emits 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases, and the production of fats and oils from animals and plants makes up seven percent of that. But two innovative companies are developing game-changing breakthroughs: Savor has figured out a way to make animal fat without animals, while C16 Biosciences is making edible oil without trees. Using renewable resources and processes like fermentation and thermochemistry, they’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint, save land and water, and protect rainforests and wildlife.
Greasy—and good for the planet

Following yesterday's post (https://lnkd.in/gmgArXPu) by Bill Gates on Gates Notes about Savor and the importance of fat as a climate problem our CTO Kathleen C. Alexander wrote this piece where she walks us through why this is indeed a big fat climate issue: "Climate is what got us interested in fats in the first place. Everyone knows that animal-based foods are an affront to the atmosphere. And some people know that the climate impact of plant-based fats is still staggering (between clearing land to plant crops, producing fertilizer, extracting the oils in large facilities, and then shipping them around the world, it adds up!). But exactly how bad are they?" https://lnkd.in/gbhf2z9U
How do we know fats account for 7% of all greenhouse gas emissions?

Thank you, Bill Gates. We're so glad you liked the butter and so grateful for your support since the earliest days of the research that led to the founding of Savor. Also, we're all bursting with pride at seeing our CTO Kathleen C. Alexander and Director of Business Development Chiara Cecchini shine in this video. 💚 Link to the full post on Gates Notes that digs into why our mission to decarbonize Fats is a key part of the climate fight: https://lnkd.in/gmgArXPu
I had a lot of fun trying the dishes created from Savor’s animal fat alternatives. Not only are they good for the climate—they also taste great.
