Both audiences and presenters of live music events suffer from the unfair and often dishonest practices of secondary ticket sellers. Today, we support the #FansFirstAct and stand with the independent live entertainment community to stop these practices with pending national legislation. Let Congress know we need transparency and fairness in ticketing and make your voice heard by contacting Congress through fixthetix.org. Together, we can create a better future for live entertainment.

At Summer Fest and beyond, SJZ has brought musicians from across the globe to work with regional artists. The cultural exchange helps us understand others, and the collaboration spotlights the universality of musical expression. In the SJZ Break Room last Friday, the SAN JOSE DUBLIN SISTER CITY PROGRAM, San Jose Office of Economic Development and Culture Ireland joined forces with us to present a moving concert by Irish singer/songwriter Mark Geary, with local musician (and SJZ Break Room muralist) Benjamin Henderson and SJZ U19s pianist Jeremy Darrow and bassist June McMahon.

MACLA and San Jose Jazz join forces to bring another FREE program to the community tomorrow, June 21 from 5–10pm. The Día de San Juan Salsa Fest is a vibrant celebration of Puerto Rican culture featuring three wonderful regional salsa bands, dance lessons and food trucks at the Parque de los Pobladores. We expect this inaugural edition of the Fest to bring hundreds to SoFA to dance, eat Puerto Rican food and patronize area businesses. Learn more at sanjosejazz.org/ddsj and join us for the fun!

We were devastated to learn of the sudden passing this week of Rick Holden, who was one of San Jose Jazz's most important supporters. Rick (seen here in 2012 receiving a plaque as a charter member of our formal Board Emeritus group) was SJZ Board Chair from 1994–2002 and since had been ubiquitous on our donor rolls and at Summer Fest each year. Rick loved live music and its ability to bring people together, working tirelessly to make San Jose more culturally vibrant. We'll miss his easy laugh, positive nature and passionate drive. We send our condolences to his family and friends.

A new feature in the landscape of downtown San Jose is the poster case just designed and installed by our Board member Mike Warner! Let there be no question about the myriad of live music shows we're presenting in the SoFA Arts District, starting with tonight’s New Works Fest Hristo Vitchev show. . . #sjz #sjznewworks #sjzbreakroom #dtsj #livemusic #sofadistrict

Great background on how the entryway design of our San Jose Jazz Break Room came to be. Thanks Benjamin Henderson for such outstanding results! https://lnkd.in/gFSQUcsf #SJZ, #SJZBreakRoom, #408Creates San Jose Downtown Association
Expanding on the San Jose Jazz Break Room brand, we took on crafting the exterior design, signage, and mural for them ahead of last year's Summer Fest. It was a fun opportunity to establish SJZ and the Break Room as a landmark right at the gateway to the SoFA arts district. After several iterations we landed on this concept of abstracting the water from the Break Room cooler with rippling sound and/or broadcast waves, playing into the fact that all the shows here are live streamed as well. One of my favorite projects to date, and another testament to how a little design and paint can really go a long way. Made possible in record time due to the ever-steady hands and help from Andrew Sumner, Jorge "J.Duh" Camacho and base coats by Sergio Herrera. #handpaintedsigns #murals #storefronts

The arts are integral to civic life and crucial to the renewed vitality of our downtown. San Jose Jazz and others have been working with the City to study more consistent and effective ways to fund the arts sector. Tomorrow, February 16 at 9am, staff findings and scenarios will be presented to the City Council. Please click the link to find out how you can help.

Oran Etkin gave a great educational assembly this morning at Santee Elementary School, made possible by the SVCREATES Arts Access Grant 2024 and the partnership of Franklin-McKinley School District. Our programming at the SJZ Break Room allows us to put on these special events and support our kids. #sjz #sjzprogressions #youth #education
