Mobilizing the community to support equitable access to a quality education for San Francisco's public school students
About us
For over 40 years, the San Francisco Education Fund has mobilized the community to support equitable access to a quality education for San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) public school students. Though programs have evolved to meet changing needs, it is the Ed Fund’s established relationships in the community that uniquely allows us to accelerate effective implementation of targeted solutions. This commitment to create stable and equitable conditions, so that all students can learn, continues to drive all that the Ed Fund does. The Ed Fund envisions a future where each and every San Francisco public school student has equitable access to quality education so that they can engage and enrich our collective community.

We are thrilled to share that the Ed Fund has secured a transformative $3 million grant from Crankstart Foundation! 🌟 This grant is set to propel the San Francisco Literacy Coalition (SFLC) forward in its mission to enhance literacy outcomes across our city. As one of the leading forces behind the SFLC, the Ed Fund is fully dedicated to leveraging this landmark grant to ensure every student in San Francisco has the literacy skills needed for success. In light of the sobering statistics revealing that SFUSD remains in the bottom 7% of literacy rates in California, the strategic coordination of literacy services in schools and across the city by the SFLC is of the utmost importance. With this grant, the SFLC – under the leadership of Ann Walden, CEO of the Ed Fund, and Bita Nazarian, CEO of 826 Valencia – aims to tackle this challenge head-on. The SFLC has set a target of achieving a 10% increase in reading and writing skills among students in its focal schools by 2026. 📚✍️ 📖Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/gRKtTzwR 🔎Learn more about the San Francisco Literacy Coalition: https://lnkd.in/g3jbTkGR

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎👨🏫🎉 One of the ways we celebrated amazing SFUSD teachers this week was through hosting our second annual Create Joy grant showcase, celebrating the transformative impact of educators within the district. In the 2023-24 school year, the Ed Fund awarded a record-breaking $197,511 in Create Joy grants, marking the highest amount granted to teachers in over a decade. This significant investment in education reflects the Ed Fund’s dedication to supporting educators and students citywide. Projects funded through the Create Joy grants extend beyond traditional classroom lessons, creating joyful learning environments that enrich the overall school experience. Next week, Paul Revere’s 6th through 8th graders will head to the San Francisco Circus Center where they’ll be introduced to aerial acrobatics and have the chance to “fly” 30 feet in the air. The opportunity excited and motivated students: in order to be eligible to attend, they must be on the honor roll. According to grant recipient Pamela Stein, “We were delighted to see a 30% increase in honor roll following the announcement of our special field trip for honor roll students!” Read the blog to learn more about the Create Joy grant showcase: https://lnkd.in/g2Za_YEb
