  • Oh baby! San Antonio has just been re-designated as a Baby-Friendly hospital for its outstanding efforts to support new moms who opt to breastfeed their babies. This distinguished honor demonstrates that San Antonio is committed to providing the support, education, and resources moms need to successfully initiate breastfeeding and continue breastfeeding when they leave our care. San Antonio was awarded the re-designation after a rigorous review by Baby-Friendly, USA to prove adherence to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding moms and their babies. These standards are built on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). • We earned Gold! For the third consecutive review cycle, San Antonio Regional Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement! In April, San Antonio went through an unannounced site visit from TJC to review the quality and safety of care being provided to patients undergoing total hip or knee joint replacement. The hospital demonstrated continuous compliance with TJC’s performance standards and was granted this advanced accreditation. Accreditation/ certification is recognized nationally as The Gold Seal of Approval in healthcare and is one of the ways patients can judge the quality of care they will receive. San Antonio’s Joint Replacement Program demonstrated consistent communication among all practitioners to provide a cohesive plan of care for patients throughout the entire process. This included pre-surgical orthopedic consultation, surgery and hospitalization, home care, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visits with the orthopedic surgeon. Congratulations to our entire orthopedic team of surgeons, nurses, mobility aides, physical therapists, and our orthopedic nurse navigator!

  • LEAF Award – June 2024 Bernard Essiful Occupational Therapist As an occupational therapist, Bernard’s goal is to be a catalyst for positive change in the world by helping others. He says working with patients at San Antonio to improve their lives always makes him happy and creates positivity for him. Bernard was given our LEAF Award for the aid he rendered to a patient having a medical emergency in the hospital parking lot. Bernard had just walked out on his lunch break when something about the man lounging in his car urged Bernard to get a closer look. The man was experiencing a stroke and had driven himself to the hospital, but was unable to get out of the car and was trying to call for help. Bernard quickly ran to the ED and summoned help. The patient’s wife stated several times how Bernard’s actions demonstrated his integrity and compassion and that she was so appreciative. Bernard also happens to be a man of many talents. Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa he speaks six different languages, and is a renowned track athlete! Congratulations, Bernard! #hereforlife #leafaward
