Bringing physical and spiritual aid to hurting people worldwide.

About us

Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. For 40 years, Samaritan's Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering. We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. Our community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow. We impact the lives of vulnerable children through educational, feeding, clothing, and shelter programs that let them know they are not forgotten. We provide first-class treatment in the Name of the Great Physician through our medical projects, as well as supplying mission hospitals with much needed equipment and supplies.

Today, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and over 24 tons of life-saving supplies to the Caribbean on our DC-8 Cargo Plane in response to Hurricane Beryl. Over the weekend, we prepped for the storm's potentially catastrophic impact by preparing our equipment, supplies and team. By noon today, the DC-8 took off to Grenada with 13 members of our DART along with 600 rolls of tarp, 3,000 solar lights, a desalination unit, 300 collapsible jerry cans, and a mobile medical unit. “Hurricane Beryl pummeled the Windward Islands, and left thousands of families in need of emergency relief,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “We started building out pallets of cargo before the hurricane even made landfall and are now on the way with life-saving aid. Please join me in praying for the families who are in the path of this storm, and for our Samaritan’s Purse staff who will be serving them.” As our team assesses the hardest-hit areas and provides aid to those in need, please keep them in your prayers. Most importantly, pray for the families devastated by this catastrophic storm and that they would know God loves them and has not forgotten them during this incredibly difficult time. Happy National Intern Day! Every summer, Samaritan’s Purse offers both domestic and international internships for college students and recent graduates. Whether at our international headquarters in North Carolina or in one of our field offices around the globe, young professionals will experience the intricate workings of an international nonprofit and be a part of bringing relief and the hope of the Gospel to hurting people. “This internship opened my eyes to see the intricacies of a ministry that pursues a partnership with God,” said Ehud Lee, Asia Region Disaster Preparedness Research Intern. “I appreciate that the employees I encounter are all willing to share their wisdom and help you navigate the Christian life.” To learn more about this program and to apply, click the link below: https://sampur.se/3WyhLd9

This month marks the 10-year anniversary of Samaritan’s Purse disaster response to Ebola in Liberia, West Africa. In this week's first episode of a special two-part series of "On the Ground with Samaritan's Purse," host Kristy Graham reflects with staff on God's faithfulness during this landmark response. Listeners will hear from Karen Daniels, a long-term staff member and nurse with Samaritan's Purse, as she shares a powerful story of hope and survival amidst the Ebola crisis. Additionally, the episode highlights how Dr. Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol’s battle with Ebola was a pivotal moment for our ministry. Kendell Kauffeldt, the country director at the time, recalls the team's resilience and reliance on prayer during a period of tremendous danger and uncertainty. Each Sunday throughout the summer, Samaritan's Purse aircraft touch down on the gravel runway at Samaritan Lodge Alaska to the sights and sounds of a flag-waving crowd. In one way, it marks the end of a journey for weary military couples, but it's the beginning of something, too. For many couples who attend this week-long retreat, hope has dimmed within their marriages. This program is often the final attempt at coming back together. For Army Sergeant John Grim and his wife, Penelope, the Lord intervened in mighty ways when He drew both of them to faith in Jesus Christ. “I lost a lot of faith after coming home from Afghanistan. I questioned my faith heavily after experiencing everything that I did. I ignored God for a long time,” John said. John also shared that his new relationship with Jesus has him more excited for the days ahead than ever before. “I feel a lot lighter now that I’ve given myself to Christ. I’m excited to begin this new journey with my wife and our son and cherish every moment we have.” They didn’t give up, though, and saw Operation Heal Our Patriots as an opportunity to strengthen their relationship. The classes helped them learn how to better communicate and resolve conflict. Most importantly, they realized that their marriage needed to be built on the firm foundation of the Gospel. “This week has been nothing short of a miracle,” John said. “I’ve never felt closer to my wife than I have this week.” To read the full story and learn more about how God is working in Alaska visit the link below: https://sampur.se/4bWrhLL

Heart Camp in Uganda, part of our Children’s Heart Project program, is an opportunity for children who have undergone heart surgery to bond and experience God’s love. Eleven-year-old Khloe is attending her third Heart Camp and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior this year. “Here I learned that Jesus died for our sins. He took our place,” she said. “I like the teachers here because they teach us about God and that He wants us to live forever with Him in Heaven. One day, I’d like to be a teacher at camp and tell kids about Jesus. I love coming here!” Daisy, also 11, has attended camp four times. She loves to read the Bible. Her favorite verse is Matthew 4:4 when Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” To read the full story click the link below: https://sampur.se/3y4TMZI

Since the start of the latest conflict in the Middle East, Samaritan's Purse has been serving war-afflicted families in Gaza and Israel. Our Disaster Assistance Response Team, along with our dedicated partners on the ground, are tirelessly working to meet both physical and spiritual needs in Jesus' Name. Through partners, nearly 6,000 hygiene kits were recently distributed to vulnerable families in Gaza. These kits included soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and more. These essential relief items serve as a powerful reminder that God has not forgotten these displaced children and their families, even in these dark times. One of our partners shared, "Thank you very much for all that you’re doing. This is the reason that we wake up every morning with a big smile, thanking you for standing with us. We believe there is hope for the future and we hope that these difficult days will end soon." As the crisis in the Middle East intensifies, we urge you to join us in prayer for the suffering families, and for our staff and partners who are courageously serving those caught in the crossfire. Looking out over the coastal hillside where Carriacou’s hospital had operated just weeks before, the neatly rowed white tents of the Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital stand out starkly against the desolate landscape of Carriacou. For the more than 200 patients we have cared for so far, our team has been busy treating infections, supplying critical medications, and showing those on the island that they do not have to go through this alone. Without these services, many others would have died from infection, hypertension, and more. But we aren’t working alone. Our field hospital is providing support to the local medical community, many of whom are grieving their own losses. Our work will help stem the tide as the local hospital and staff restore capacity in the area. “We are very grateful that we have the field hospital,” said Sherrien, a staff member of Carriacou’s medical system. “It has been a buffer for our system while we refurbish the hospital. We’re very grateful for all the help that we can get. We are thankful to God. God is a merciful God. And I think that even though the buildings have gone down, the people are still together.” Learn More: https://sampur.se/4cH46q7
