We applaud the Washington State Healthcare Authority’s (HCA) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) resulting in a new coverage determination of spinal cord stimulation (SCS). This decision enables access to SCS therapy for state employees, Medicaid recipients, and individuals with worker’s compensation coverage. SCS helps treat low back pain, failed back surgery syndrome (persistent lower back pain experienced post spine surgery), or painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (a debilitating complication of diabetes). This was a collective effort from the passionate advocacy of local physicians, the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) in collaboration with many additional physician societies, and companies that develop this technology for people living with chronic pain. Last week, over 30 nurses from Europe and the UK gathered at our inaugural European Nurse Networking meeting in Amsterdam to review the science, evidence, and practical application of SmartLoop™ dose-control technology. At INS 2024, Dr. Tony Van Havenbergh recently presented the interim results of their prospective study on medication tapering during ECAP Dose-Controlled Closed-Loop SCS which highlights the neurophysiologic changes that can occur when tapering medications including patient specific sensitivity and the therapeutic dosing range. @Anne Persyn from Medical Center Leeuwarden visited Sint-Augustinus Hospital, Antwerp as part of the the Evoke® Academy to observe Saluda Medical™ cases and learn more about Dr. Van Havenbergh’s interim findings from his study.
