NEW RESEARCH FUNDING - Has war increased online risks for Ukrainian children? Initial analysis of the dark web by our researchers indicates that Ukrainian children are being discussed by offenders in online forums almost 300% more frequently than before the invasion in 2022. We've been awarded $250,000 of funding from Safe Online to extend this work, which will be the first major European study to investigate the impact of war on the online safety of children. Thanks to the funding, we're launching the Dity Online project – ‘dity’ is Ukrainian for ‘children’ – to survey and collect data from 1,500 Ukrainian children and their parents. The research will be led by Deputy Director Anna Markovska. The final phase of the project will be the development of an education programme for schools to help raise awareness of the risks posed to children online and how to stay safe. 🌟 This is a wrap-up of the energising two days at the Safe Digital Futures for Children: Data for Change Technical Workshop in London! Our #Data4Change community made substantial progress in laying the foundations for a stronger, more inclusive online CSEA (Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) data framework. Key highlights: 👉 Ecosystem Mapping: We explored how data is collected, used, shared, and translated into action within the online CSEA ecosystem, identifying critical gaps, barriers, and opportunities to improve data flows and infrastructure. 👉 Good Practices: We shared and discussed best practices from the online CSEA data ecosystem and other related fields. 👉 Collaborative Planning: Together, we identified clear outputs and strategies to strengthen the data ecosystem, focusing on practical, high-impact actions. Looking ahead: We will continue building on the good practices, strengthening solutions to address barriers, and growing the community to ensure better representation and diversity of voices. A huge thank you to all participants, the UK Home Office, WeProtect Global Alliance, and #Google for support with this event. Together, we’re driving real change in online child safety. #SafeOnline Marija Manojlovic Natalie Shoup
