On July 1, Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills into law that reform aspects of the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), with the reforms taking effect retroactive to June 19. The reforms included were centered around four areas: New penalty structure, reduced and streamlined litigation, standing reforms, and strengthened state enforcement. Leadership Sacramento braved the heat last week with our Law and Order class day! The class had the opportunity to learn from detectives, prosecutors, DA's and federal judges about some of the hot issues facing our region at the federal courthouse. In the afternoon we headed out to the Sacramento Police Academy to learn about training and the specialty units within the police and fire departments. The class cooled down with snow cones! Robert had a great time traveling with SACOG for their Peer Region Tour to explore the Denver community and learn about some of the opportunities and challenges that exist along with taking home some best practices. The group met with a number of key community groups and stakeholders on topics such as housing, transportation, business development and the delegation was pleased to meet with Mike Johnston, Mayor of Denver.

On Wednesday, The Sacramento Metro Chamber Board held their quarterly meeting at Spaces, R Street immediately followed by the Chamber's After Hours Mixer. It was a great turnout full of Chamber members, Board members, Metro EDGE members and potential future members. The event featured food from one of our Chamber's member businesses - Pizza Guys and wine poured from another Chamber member business - Acheson Wine Company. A big 'thank you' to Turton Commercial Real Estate for sponsoring the event and thank you to all who came out! 2. Liz, Director of Public Policy and External Affairs, connected with Sacramento City District 2 candidate Stephen Walton to hear about his campaign and discuss key policy issues he looks to champion for the constituents of District 2 and the City at large.
