The one that especially caught the creative leader's attention was #Dove's "Hard Knocks." McCormick says: "They hit me right where I am as a father with nine-year-old girls. Gymnastics. Swimming. How are we defining “general market” advertising these days? As the U.S. population landscape continues to diversify, the answer is certainly a lot different from 50 — 30 — even 15 years ago. And according to Ernest Bromley, it’s a question that marketers and advertisers can no longer afford to ignore. Ernest joined us last week as we closed out Hispanic Heritage Month for a discussion on “Advertising through a Hispanic Lens.” He ran Bromley Communications for almost 35 years and was instrumental in the development of segmentation approaches tailored to different levels of language and cultural comfort zones. Through a series of personal and professional anecdotes, Ernest reminded us of the potential behind embracing diverse perspectives and the importance of empathy and immersion to effectively rethink the narrative that we put out there. Cultural understanding makes for more assertive brands, not to mention the positive impact on diverse communities. We thought we’d share some of our favorite quotes from him.
