“…if a brand says that a product was “clinically proven” or “clinically tested,” that does not necessarily mean that it underwent a clinical study; it only means that the product was given to consumers to try.” In the past decade, especially in the years since the pandemic began, phrases like “clinically proven” or “clinically tested” have appeared on more and more packaging on shelves and brand pages everywhere - but the unfortunate truth is that for many of these brands, this is nothing more than a marketing ploy. It always surprises people when I tell them there is no agreed upon definition when it comes to the term clinically studied. At Ritual, we believe in transparency and evidence. That's why we’ve committed to gold-standard, human clinical trials across all our products— because when it comes to your health, trust is non-negotiable. It’s not a marketing tactic for us - it’s what the brand was built on. I started Ritual when I was four months pregnant and I couldn’t find a prental that was transparent and honest about what I was putting in my body - I wanted to know what I was giving to my baby, so I started a company I could trust. To us, a gold-standard clinical trial is a completely randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled human clinical study. Ritual self funds these from our own pockets and is committed to having them on all of our products by 2030 - a goal that is not (but should be) a requirement in the industry. Ritual is built on transparency, and that transparency is the foundation for the trust our consumers have in our brand. It’s our ‘secret-sauce’ — but, we’re not stingy with it. In fact, we don’t want a secret sauce at all! We want every brand to copy us! Every brand should be as transparent about what they are putting on shelves. These gold-standard trials should be standard in the industry - and we’re working with congress to make it so. At Ritual, we don’t want to be an outlier, we want to set the standard. 🥕 Ritual has a "Food-First" philosophy, meaning we believe the majority of our nutrients should come from a healthy, well-varied diet. Supplements can then help fill gaps and support us through critical life stages. For this reason, it was only natural for us to support the work of FEAST, a program designed to increase access to fresh foods and provide education around nutrition for families in the LA area. The Ritual team rolled up our sleeves, sorting over 1,200 pounds of fresh donated produce, curating bags to be delivered to the community. Ritual is an official & proud sponsor of Angel City Football Club, the lead partner in supporting FEAST learn more here: https://feastforall.org/ To read more about Ritual's Food First philosophy check out this: https://lnkd.in/gfDfU3-j Pictured are Ritual team members Isadora Trejo (regulatory affairs champion) and Sophia Augustine (leader of our community program, The Skeptics). The supplement industry has exploded from 3,000 products to over 90,000 in the last 30 years, yet there has been no major regulatory reform in that time. This has led to growing concerns around product safety, efficacy, and transparency. Consumers deserve better, and it’s time to address these issues. Join me at HLTH Inc. on October 21st where I’ll be speaking on a panel around "Supplemental Mistrust". I'll be discussing the urgent need for improved oversight in the industry and how trusted brands are stepping up to prove the clinical efficacy of their products in a market flooded with misinformation and questionable claims. Looking forward to sharing insights with this amazing group! Consumers are questioning if supplements actually work, here's one reason why: "In the United States, clinical studies are mandatory for new pharmaceuticals and some medical devices. But notably, there isn’t an agreed-upon definition for how brands use the term 'clinical study.' Studies can vary from those conducted in laboratories under controlled conditions to ones that involve feedback from participants," Julia Waldow writes for Modern Retail. Ritual prioritizes clinically-studied ingredients (using at the same dose as in the study) for our products and are on track to have human clinical on our finished products by 2030. "Community" is a buzzy, hard to measure concept in the CPG industry. Our take? “It doesn’t just happen. Community is a muscle you that you need to grow and build.” We just launched The Skeptics: our new program for health care professionals, nutrition experts, fellow label readers, and Ritual super fans, wanting to share our products with their community and help set a new standard for safety & efficacy in the supplement industry. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gRh5ix5r Katerina Markov Schneider (quoted above) 💛

Team Ritual is heading to NYC for #ClimateWeek: Here are some things we learned by switching from spend-based carbon accounting, to a more detailed LCA-based (life cycle assessment) approach: 🤓 We learned that the spend-based carbon footprint (Scope 1-3) was very inaccurate in assessing the amount of carbon our company emits. It also failed to give us any real actionable information to decarbonize our Scope 3. 🌍 We learned more about our carbon hotspots, specifically which ingredients have a higher footprint than expected. (Shipper boxes came in higher than we thought). ♻ We learned that our focus on recycled packaging and domestic manufacturing helped reduce our overall footprint. 🌿 Our investment in vegan ingredients drastically helped reduce overall emissions. Thanks to Planet FWD, Julia Collins, and the team for helping Ritual look around the curve to take real action on climate change. You can read more about our 360 approach (which includes advocating for climate policy) in our impact report: https://lnkd.in/dF3vVMXX #climateweek2024 #climatechange #climateaction #decarbonization Hats off for the continued leadership: Katerina Markov Schneider, Em Gladders, Samantha Knapp Meek, Lindsay Dahl

Ritual may be a 9 figure business and may be a leading prenatal in the US, but we’ve only just scratched the surface. I started Ritual when I was 4 months pregnant and couldn’t find a prenatal I could trust. So I made one - then I built that trust. Trust is the main pillar of what makes this company successful and it’s the main driver as we grow. On this week’s episode of Fitt Insider I talk with Joe Vennare about how Ritual has used trust to build a top performing DTC women’s health company into an omni-channel winner, on it’s way to becoming a household name. Trust isn’t one-sided. With trust comes community, and in order to get trust from your community, you have to give it, too. We rely on and trust our community of skeptics to tell us where to go next and what we should deliver to the market - and sometimes the results are surprising. One example of this is our Natal Choline. Our consumers made it clear they had an interest in some form of natal choline, but when we looked at the total addressable market, it was close to nonexistent. It was far from an obvious choice for expansion - so why did we take the risk? Trust. We worked with expert scientists who proved to us that there was a correlation between choline intake in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and the cognitive growth of their children. We took these findings and agreed unanimously that this was a valuable product, not because of dollars in the market, but because it was a necessary nutrient for our biggest skeptics: mothers. The results were phenomenal… now, less than a year into launch, we are the number one natal choline on the market in several channels - and its performance is exceeding all of our forecasts. Mothers are often the Chief Health Officers of the family. Being a supplement company means that if we want to do well, she has to trust us. Now, 6 years after our first product launch, I am proud to say that we can measure that trust, and we have won it. “Chief Health Officers” across the country are opening their doors to us, and giving us a spot in their family’s medicine cabinet… which gives us the permission to grow further. Ritual’s winning vision is “To be the most trusted platform for women’s health, forming lifelong relationships with her”. The next stage of Ritual is extending that platform - and I can’t wait to show you what we've got up our sleeves. Thanks again to Joe Vennare - check out this week’s episode of Fitt Insider here: https://lnkd.in/g7-wWqz2 #Business #Podcast #Health #BrandTrust #BrandLoyalty #DTC #Supplements

We are a team that likes to look around the corner when it comes to women's health. "Sometimes creating the new market opportunity is more exciting and more worthwhile than just doubling down on something that has been working for so many people,” Katerina Markov Schneider shared with Fitt Insider, about launching our Natal Choline, an essential nutrient that so many women still don't know they need during pregnancy. Can you get pregnant during perimenopause? Short answer, yes. "Christie Messenger MD, FACOG, an ob-gyn with a focus in reproductive healthcare at New York University and member of Ritual’s Scientific Advisory Board, 'Anovulation means that you’re not releasing an egg that month and therefore, cannot conceive,' she says. 'The reduction of ovulatory cycles in a given year decreases the number of opportunities that you have to conceive in that year.'
