Here’s to the two people most responsible for F32’s win: our admin!
There’s so much more to running a team of 60 college students than simply making sure the designs going onto the car are the best they can be. Owen Sherbinko, our Chief Engineer, and Damian Delfino, our Project Manager, did an incredible job of promoting all aspects of our team.
To Damian:
Your positive personality has so much more of an impact on the team than I think you’ll ever recognize. From the surprise dodgeball day we had this year, to the pancake breakfasts, to buying the speaker so the team could listen to music in the shop and at comp, you made sure that the team wasn’t just building a racecar but genuinely having fun doing it. This showed especially on the morning of Endurance, when we had a ton of people from other teams checking out F32, asking questions, and learning how we did things. Your emphasis on not procrastinating on deadlines for comp turned around to push us to the win. I don’t think the team has ever NOT been packing the Penske the night before comp, and if that doesn’t show how successful you’ve been in leading the team, I don’t know what would.
To Owen:
Damian wasn’t the only one making sure we were having fun. From crushing Marg Towers, to the team Minecraft night, you made sure we weren’t just having fun inside the shop, but rather, you made sure we were having fun outside of the shop. You made sure we weren’t just a team but truly a group of friends. Additionally, your emphasis on all of the little details that went into F32 ensured that F32 was a well-buttoned-up, rules-compliant car.
Doc Nye said that he has never seen the team get along and mesh as well as we do and that he’s so proud of what the team has become. The two of you have reshaped this team into something better than it has ever been. With the two of you at the helm, it’s no wonder we were able to win at Michigan.
It is from the bottom of our hearts, Damian and Owen, when we say, from the rest of the team, thank you! We are all better off thanks to your leadership.
