This place forges Divers from the raw material of Navy sailors and other service branch members. Divers conduct their difficult tasks in one of mother nature’s most dangerous and unforgiving environments. Rei: I get asked what makes Divers different? A: Suppress the natural will to live to accomplish a task to save your life. NDSTC is the first time I was asked to suppress the natural will to live to accomplish a task. Other examples include parachuting and, of course, combat. During pool week, the surface, visible from the bottom of the pool, promises the ultimate safety (air). Instructors impose a series of increasingly complex problems on the students, who are asked to perform a series of tasks under imposed stress. It would be easy to just go to the surface and save your own life. Make it all go away. But you don’t. You acknowledge and clear the fear, assess the problem, fix the problem, and carry on. “The change of command ceremony is not prescribed specifically by U.S. Navy regulations, but rather is a long-standing Naval tradition.” #rigidtacitcal #diving #navy
