Pride in Partnership Part 1️⃣ 1️⃣ Ridge Vineyards’ reputation for consistent quality and sustainability is second to none. This is evidenced by their early success at helping California wine achieve global recognition at the original Judegment of Paris tasting in 1976, and their Monte Bello Cabernet proceeding to win by a landslide the 2006 reenactment featuring the same highly esteemed wines. Ridge's work with Zinfandel has also been transformative, helping elevate the grape's reputation from being primarily suited for blending or lower-tier varietal wines to producing consistently unique, world-class wines. Furthermore, Ridge has established itself as a remarkable leader in sustainability. They have achieved 100% organic certification for their estate vineyards and designed their Lytton Springs facility with cutting-edge techniques to reduce environmental impact. As members of the IWCA - International Wineries for Climate Action, Ridge is progressing towards net-zero emissions. Their eco-friendly packaging includes lightweight glass bottles, no wasteful wooden boxes, and, as of last year, Free Flow Wines’ reusable steel kegs for On-Premise accounts like Sixty Vines. Ridge offers two unique venues for hosting visitors – Lytton Springs (Sonoma) and Monte Bello (Santa Cruz Mountains). Both tasting rooms are well worth the visit, but until recently I underestimated the beauty and amazing history on display from 2,600 feet in the clouds at Monte Bello. Despite its serene, remote feel, Monte Bello is only a 30-40 minute drive (20 miles) from San Jose Airport. Judgment of Paris 🔸 May 24, 1976 Steven Spurrier organizes a tasting of California cabernets & chardonnay and top French wines. To everyone's surprise, California beat the French in both the red and white flights. The 1971 Monte Bello comes in 5th. 🔸May 24, 2006 30-year repeat of the Judgment of Paris. The 1971 and 2000 Monte Bello cabernets win first place in both the original vintage wine and new vintage wine categories in London and California. 🔸Today Since its inception in 1962, RIDGE has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare and exceptional vineyards where climate, soil, and grape variety are ideally matched. Embracing a philosophy of "pre-industrial" winemaking and adhering to organic farming practices, RIDGE believes that modern additives and industrial methods can limit the true quality of fine wine.

2022 Paso Robles Zinfandel These old #zinfandel vines on the Benito Dusi Ranch were planted in the 1920s and are now farmed by the third generation. Winemaker Trester Goetting describes the vintage: "Despite a dry, warm growing season, a healthy crop was at optimal ripeness for a late August harvest, just ahead of the record heat wave. Fifteen months in oak, rich, exotic fruit, fresh acidity, and a long finish make it enjoyable on release. It will develop beautifully over the next seven or eight years." The properties that now comprise Ridge Vineyards' Monte Bello Estate were first developed and planted to #wine grapes during the late 1800s and early 1900s by four different, unique owners. The Klein, Rousten, Torre, and Perrone Ranches range in elevation from 1300′ to 2700′ above sea level. The Monte Bello #vineyard is composed of unique green stone and clay soils layered over decomposing limestone. RIDGE founding families Dave and Fran Bennion, Hew and Sue Crane, Charlie and Blanche Rosen, and Howard Zeidler never dreamed that their private weekend retreat with its spectacular views of the Bay Area would steadily develop into a world-class #winery. But thanks to the distinctive, one-of-a-kind wines produced from this particular piece of earth, it has done just that.
