About us

Rewiring America is a growing nonprofit focused on electrifying our homes, businesses, and communities. Our world-class team develops accessible, actionable data and tools. We’re the conduit for Americans to achieve energy efficiency, tackle nationwide emission goals, improve health, save money and build the next generation of the clean energy workforce. We believe in an abundant, flourishing, climate-safe future, and know that, together, we can realize one. Founded in the summer of 2020, Rewiring America’s purpose is to make electrification simple, measurable, and inevitable. Every single opportunity to replace a car, water heater, furnace, dryer, cooktop, and even lawn equipment that runs on fossil fuels is an opportunity for electrification. We are committed to using the best data and analysis to build market-transforming partnerships and tell the stories of transformation and success that people will relate to, gravitate to, and want to join. We are outcomes-oriented, focused on achieving national emissions goals, improving our health, lowering monthly bills and creating millions of clean energy jobs. We know this is the decade that matters, and that our collective success winds through and depends on all of us.

Rewiring America is honored to share that Power Forward Communities, a new coalition of which we are a member, has been awarded a $2 billion, seven-year National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Through our partnership with some of the country’s most trusted housing, climate, and community investment groups, including Habitat for Humanity International, Enterprise Community Partners, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), and United Way, we’re purpose-built to help transform the housing sector, save homeowners and renters money, invest in stronger communities, and meet national climate goals. “As an apartment dweller and user of a subpar stove in my rental, having an induction cooktop in my home kitchen gives me more range in cooking. I use induction to maintain consistently simmering pots of beans that don’t scald the bottoms of my pots. I can slow-braise lamb shoulders on induction at specific temperatures, which can be difficult to achieve with a gas stove. I’ve placed an induction burner in the middle of my dining table for a hot-pot party. I’ve brought one with me to cook outdoors and to Airbnbs with inadequate cooking setups.” A portable induction burner is an easy, convenient, and affordable way to elevate your cooking. “Most people in the world’s biggest fossil fuel producing countries want their countries to transition quickly to clean energy to fight the climate crisis, according to the largest ever climate opinion poll, conducted by the UN. In the US, the world’s biggest oil and gas producer, 54% of people want a fast transition.” The clean energy transition is popular — and inevitable 🙌 [✏️: The Guardian]

“When they run on diesel, the biggest pieces of construction equipment can churn through 10 or more gallons of fuel per hour, emitting as much carbon and air pollution as several cars combined. Off-road equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, cranes and tractors, create about 3 percent of U.S. carbon emissions — roughly the same as the airline industry. Making these machines carbon-free would be almost as big a step toward halting climate change as taking all commercial planes out of the sky.” Electrifying machines that both propel themselves and handle hours of heavy-duty each day has its challenges. But companies like John Deere, Caterpillar, and Komatsu are rolling out new, electric models for their tractors, excavators, wheel loaders, and more. [✏️: The Washington Post]
