About us

The RCDSMM works with public and private landowners to conserve natural resources throughout the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas. We have proudly served the local community with our programs in watershed management, restoration, research and education for over 50 years. We focus on the following in our projects and activities: - Restoring native habitat and monitoring endangered species - Providing environmental education to local schools - Translating scientific research into practical solutions - Promoting water conservation and improving water quality - Collaborating on local projects with our partners, including local, state and federal agencies and organizations - Offering a variety of volunteer opportunities

    Job Alert! 📢 The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains (RCDSMM) is hiring a new District Manager. RCDSMM offers programs and services focused on watershed management, restoration, research, and education throughout the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas. RCDSMM plans and implements riparian and wetland restoration projects, conducts monitoring for various sensitive habitats and species, works toward the recovery of endangered fish populations, implements habitat creation and enhancement, plans interpretive design projects, and coordinates environmental education programs for learners of all levels. The mission of the District is to promote land stewardship and resource conservation through ecological research, conservation and design, habitat restoration and environmental education, while adhering to the highest standards of transparency and accountability as a public agency. The RCDSMM is seeking a strong strategic thinker and problem solver as their new District Manager. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in aligning programs founded on the values of social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion and in engaging with people from various identities, ages, cultures, and experiences. Qualified candidates should have experience in grant and contract writing, administration, implementation, and relevant software. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a District Manager or higher in a relevant position is required. The selected candidate will have a high interest in and commitment to the mission and goals of the RCDSMM, including ecological principles and natural resource management practices leading to a sustainable community environment. The incumbent must have the ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity to confidential information. The annual salary range for the District Manager is $120,000 - $130,000; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
