R A Senior Vice President Maria May reflects on the impact of “American Alliance for Equal Rights v. Fearless Fund” on the philanthropic world. “Last month, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit sent shock waves through the philanthropic community with its ruling in “American Alliance for Equal Rights v. Fearless Fund,” temporarily blocking a venture fund and its foundation from making grants to Black women entrepreneurs. Grantmakers, particularly those that serve historically marginalized groups, are watching the case closely, as it hinges on the question of whether philanthropic grants are considered protected free speech or contracts subject to state laws. Nonprofits around the country and especially those in the 11th Circuit (including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama) can utilize resources such as those provided by the Council on Foundations to stay apprised of developments in the case. Philanthropic and nonprofit organizations are also invited to sign on to their statement, standing for philanthropy and supporting the rights of funders to continue to give in ways aligned with their values and missions.”

Last month, the 84-year-old artist Larry Bell oversaw the final stages of the installation of his sweeping survey “Larry Bell: Improvisations” at Phoenix Art Museum. One of the forerunners of the Light and Space movement, Bell brought luminous colors and gleaming glass and metallics to the space. A show about light, beauty, and life, science and heart, permanence and ephemerality, “Improvisations” tells Bell’s story. Read more from @William Van Meter in artnet.

"It’s extremely rare for The Kennedy Center Honors to select a venue, rather than a performer. But The Apollo Theater's nine-decade run as an incubator for generations of Black talent has qualified it as an exception." The Apollo will be honored by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts later this year as a landmark that has served as a proving ground for Black performers. Read more in The Washington Post:

0xCollection sat down with George Nelson of ARTnews for a great conversation on digital art. Read below:
Elle Anastasiou, 0xCollection’s Director, was interviewed by ARTnews on 0x’s collecting practice, the state of the #digitalart world, and more. “0xCollection was born out of a vision I shared with Karel Komárek on developing a canonical approach to collecting #newmedia work. The idea was that we would create a hybridized approach. So rather than taking a universal or a chronological approach, we would define and adopt a different curatorial theme each year, and we would find masterworks through the artistic canon, both from established artists and from newer, emerging artists who could elaborate on that theme.” Read the full interview:
