🆕 European solar batteries 🔋 grew by 94% in 2023! In our new European Market Outlook for Battery Storage 2024-2028, we reveal that, at the end of last year, Europe's total solar battery capacity reached around 36 GWh. Key takeaways 👇 🔌 In 2023 Europe installed 17.2 GWh of new battery energy storage systems (BESS); a 94% increase compared to 2022. 🏠 Residential BESS accounted for 63% of Europe's solar batteries, with large-scale BESS contributing 27%, and solar batteries at commercial / industrial sites adding 10%. 🏆 Germany leads Europe in solar batteries, deploying 5.9 GWh last year alone, followed by Italy with 3.7 GWh and the UK with 2.7 GWh. Though Europe's battery market has boomed 📈 in the early 2020s, doubling every year for the last 3 years, we forecast slower growth in the years to come. ⚠ From 2024-2028, annual growth will sit in the 30-40% range. Europe needs at least 200 GW of battery storage to meet 2030 goals. #LetsFlex our energy system for a faster transition, incoming policymakers must commit to a serious Europe electricity storage strategy and target for the end of the decade.
