RENEW MENA Conference Day 3 - “Powering On: Women Spark Change Towards a Livable Planet”. On the final day of the conference… 👉 We heard from women entrepreneurs and leaders in climate tech in the MENA region 👉 We held a speed mentoring session 👉 Participants presented the activities they are planning for the upcoming year - supporting opportunities for women in the energy sector 👉 Delegates discussed potential partnerships for their organizations 👉 The day concluded with the RENEW MENA 2024 award ceremony, acknowledging special talent, effort, and achievements for individuals and energy sector institutions in the MENA region! 🏆 Three days of inspiration, networking, planning, brainstorming, and collaborating at the conference came to a conclusion last night. There were moments of recognition, sharing, and - as you can see in the photos - lots of joy! The last day will be a field trip in Jordan. Recap Day 2 – RENEW MENA Conference 2024 in Amman, Jordan. The theme for the second day of the conference was: "Breaking Glass Ceilings: Why Workplace Policies & Conditions Matter for Gender Diversity" Some highlights: 👉 The lightning talk 'A Female Engineer’s Journey in the Field of Energy through the Lens of Disability' by Eng. Dona Jaber (pictures 4 & 6) 👉 The session on regional action to promote a gender diverse workforce in MENA 👉 The interactive leadership debate, where conference participants did an amazing job in re-enacting harmful stereotypical workplace behaviour and how to counter it effectively (the joy in the room was palpable!) 👉 The working session in which RENEW MENA Partners and potential partners got to work, identifying activities that support women's opportunities in their organizations. Day 1 of the RENEW MENA Conference 2024 in Amman, Jordan is a wrap! Our 150 conference guests were welcomed by the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, H.E. Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, with the statement: "There are no challenges facing women working in the energy sector in Jordan!" Other highlights from day 1: 👉 The panel session on implementing RENEW MENA Pillars, where Partners from the network spoke on the opportunities and challenges across the MENA region. 👉 The learning session with guests from RENEW MENA's sister networks in South Asia and Africa. 👉 A wonderful conversation with high school student, graduates, young professionals and RENEW MENA interns from Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco. 👉 And last but not least, the session on the pivotal role of academia for education to work transitions. On May 9th, the World Bank organized an event on improving the role of women in the energy sector, as part of the Regional Energy Network for Women in the Middle East and North Africa (RENEW MENA). This meeting brought together fifty women professionals around the subject of #gender in energy. We discussed: 👉 The fight against sexist stereotypes and collaborative efforts to stimulate the economic participation of women throughout the #energy value chain. 👉 Solutions to improving the role of women in the energy sector – specifically in the #energytransition, which creates jobs and brings the opportunity of better involvement of women professionals. The event consisted of 3 sessions. 1️⃣ Presentation of current programs of donors and stakeholders in support and recognition of the professional careers of women. Programs discussed were RENEW MENA; USAID's “Gender Equity Executive Leadership program” ; and GIZ's “Empower Women In Energy & Climate” program. 2️⃣ Testimonies from #womenleaders on the specific obstacles limiting the role of women in accessing technical and senior management positions in companies in the energy sector – and opportunities to improving it. 3️⃣ A brainstorm involving #students discussing the issues and proposing an action plan on improving gender equality within the energy sector. amira klibi, Ezzedine Khalfallah #genderequality #womeninenergy #womeninSTEM

This year, RENEW MENA will host the 2nd Annual #Conference of Partners, Steering Committee Members and Collaborators of the Regional Network in Energy for Women in the Middle East and North Africa in Amman, #Jordan from May 20-23, 2024. Since its launch in June 2022, RENEW MENA has reached 25 institutional and strategic partnerships that include national #utilities, private sector, and academia in Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, and West Bank and Gaza. We are growing a network of over 250 individual members. Based on preliminary results, RENEW MENA partners implemented 473 activities in 2023 that reached a total of 22,008 beneficiaries of which close to 75 percent are female beneficiaries. This year’s event will bring together the RENEW MENA community with the aim to inspire and be inspired through an exchange of knowledge, experiences, and practical know-how around women’s economic participation and leadership in the energy sector.
