“We wanted to be creative in thinking about how to build the future workforce that we all need,” Peggy Maguire, president of our corporate foundation said. “We’re interested in supporting students from communities traditionally underrepresented in professional health care roles and to help them see themselves as valuable contributors to patient outcomes. Creating a workforce that represents the community it serves will improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction.” In response to shortages in the health care workforce which create significant barriers to care in our communities, our corporate foundation partnered with MultiCare Health System and Tacoma Public Schools to expand the health care workforce by providing affordable, equitable and sustainable paths to health care education through the Healthcare Careers Academy program.
