Throughout September and October, we’re featuring teammates from across Realtor.com to learn more about what #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth means to them. Meet Bianca Dominguez. As a Software Engineer on the Identity Team, Bianca specializes in backend systems, where she focuses on resolving user identities, and workes closely with Authentication to ensure secure and seamless user experiences. What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? Hispanic Heritage Month is a time for me to reflect on the deep pride I feel for my culture and community. Growing up in Pilsen, a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, I was immersed in a vibrant world filled with rich traditions and a strong sense of community. Celebrations like Mexican Independence Day and 'El Grito' were not just events but were vital experiences that connected me to my roots and history. What I love most about my heritage is the beauty and depth of our culture. From the love and care poured into every traditional dish to the colorful and joyous celebrations, there's a profound sense of unity and support that binds us together. Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity for me to celebrate all of this—our resilience, our contributions, and the ways we uplift one another. It’s a time to honor where we come from and to share the richness of our culture with others. I will always proudly carry my heritage with me, knowing it's a vital part of who I am. What’s your favorite cultural tradition? One of my favorite traditions is making buñuelos with my grandmother during the holiday season. I have such fond memories of spending time in the kitchen with her, helping to make the dough and rolling it out. It was a time-consuming process, but looking back, I’m so grateful for the hours we spent together, bonding over the shared task. The whole house would be filled with the warm, comforting smell of cinnamon. Those moments were special because they were more than just about cooking—they were about connection and family. I remember knowing that after making buñuelos, I’d get to sip a bit of my grandfather's café and play dominoes with my family, creating even more cherished memories. What do you wish more people knew about you/your family’s culture and/or heritage? In the Hispanic community, everyone is treated like family, and there's always room for one more at the table. Growing up, I remember there was always enough food to feed not just our family but any extra friends who might join us for dinner. Our traditions are open to everyone, and we genuinely love sharing them with others, whether it’s inviting someone to join in on a celebration or simply sharing a meal. The warmth and hospitality of our community are at the heart of who we are. It's about creating a sense of belonging and making sure everyone feels included. I think that's something truly special about our culture that I wish more people understood and experienced.

Happy #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth! Throughout September and October, we’re featuring teammates from across Realtor.com to learn more about what National Hispanic Heritage Month means to them. Meet Karla Navarrete, Voice Intelligence Specialist. In her role, Karla analyzes calls and data from our Digital Sales team to ensure the highest level of consumer and customer experience. What does National Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? My father immigrated to the United States from Nicaragua during the Sandinista Revolution when he was 16 years old and became a naturalized citizen after 20 years in the country. My Tata, my grandfather on my mother’s side, crossed the border to California in the early 1930s to sell fruit. He had to go back and forth from Mexico numerous times until he was able to get a green card and eventually became a US citizen. When I think of National Hispanic Heritage Month, I think of the journeys my grandfather, father, and ancestors have taken in the pursuit of giving better opportunities for the generations of family members to come. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage is to acknowledge sacrifice, struggles, and injustices, while relishing in family, good food, and the best life has to offer. What's your current favorite cultural tradition? I moved to Texas in 2016 and through the relationships I’ve built within the Hispanic community here and through my wife’s family, who are based in San Antonio, I have adopted some of my now-favorite traditions. From making tamales on Christmas Eve with the whole family pitching in (it starts with boiling a big pig head - my wife handles this!), to eating bunuelos for New Year’s and attending Fiesta events in downtown San Antonio, celebrating Hispanic culture in Texas has helped me heal generational traumas and give me a greater sense of orgullo (pride) in myself and my Hispanic heritage. What do you wish more people knew about your family’s culture and heritage? There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to Hispanic/Latin American heritage. It’s complicated at times, never perfect, and vast. Don’t limit yourself to only knowing about one small piece of it - branch out in your local communities to learn more about the unique beauties each country and culture has to offer. Being Mexican and Nicaraguan, I often get profiled as only Mexican, but to only acknowledge half of my cultural heritage is to deny my whole authentic self. Please be mindful of the intricate and diverse backgrounds Latinos/as share.
