a place-based experience exploring the relationship between childhood experience and creative talent and innovation, the Antonín Dvořák Birth House was also an amazing opportunity to create an exhibition tapping the rich traditions of local craftspeople to create the various elements of the exhibition. Everything you see in the  Antonín Dvořák Birth House from the furniture to the showcases, musical instruments, the mechanical interactives, audio devices, glassware, lighting fixtures, tapestries, ceramics, and models and graphics were all handmade in local bohemian workshops and ateliers. Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) was tasked with overall design but engaged a wide range of local creative talents to develop the designs including Capacity Expo, Filip Blažek, Pavla Beranova, Petrof Pianos (www.petrof.com), among many others. For me it’s probably the most successful recent example of a sustainable approach to realizing an exhibition where the local communities' latent talents are identified during a design process and fully and fruitfully utilized in the making of the exhibition and thus achieved a very high quality and attention to detail. Last chance to see RAA designed special exhibition "Elephantine: Island of the Millennia" at the James Simon Gallery and Neues Museum on Museum Island in Berlin. Finissage is this Friday. Check it out before it closes! Hundreds of historical artifacts found in the archaeological excavations of Elephantine from notable collections such as the Louvre, the British Library and the Brooklyn Museum are on display alongside the rich collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Visitors experience both the international research cooperation that deciphered, translated and made these treasures digitally accessible, and thus enable us to experience the ancient culture of Elephantine. All exhibition texts are available in German, English and Arabic. The papyrus and ceramic fragments on display, which contain text in ten ancient languages, span around 4,000 years and provide insights into the various cultures and religions that have continuously inhabited this unique site and establish a link to life in a multi-ethnic metropolis today. Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA)'s design translates the research findings into an immersive and interactive experience that conveys a fascination for the manifold stories that can be explored and discovered through the more than 10,000 papyri and ostraca (ceramic fragments) found on Elephantine Island.  We were fascinated by Elephantine Island's rich history and unique location, as well as the stories of cultural and religious diversity that are evident in the impressive collections and the stories they reveal. Our design aims to create a playful immersion into these stories and themes which are relevant to the diversity of our contemporary society. We are really pleased to share that planning has been approved for National Museums Liverpool's International Slavery Museum and Maritime Museum redevelopment on the city's waterfront. The transformed museums will centre around people - past, present and future local, national and international - to create dynamic, welcoming spaces that meaningfully address contemporary issues. Those whose lives have been most affected by the histories being told are playing a fundamental role in the development of both museums. In January 2024, National Museums Liverpool announced the appointment of FCBStudios as the new team leading the architectural design of the £58m major redevelopment of the International Slavery Museum and Maritime Museum. The practice has been working with key members of the University of Liverpool: School of Architecture, in facilitating community conversations. The redevelopment will see the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building transform into a prominent new entrance to the International Slavery Museum. A new Entrance Pavilion will create an inspiring welcome and a stronger sense of identity for the museum. Internally, the building will become a space for learning and community. A striking iron and glass bridge will connect the re-imagined International Slavery Museum galleries in the Hartley Pavilion to the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building and offer spectacular views both into and out of the Royal Albert Dock. Maritime Museum’s improved visitor welcome and orientation space will enable visitors to appreciate the historic fabric and scale of the building on arrival. There will also be better circulation for visitors and enhanced commercial facilities, including a shop, café and events spaces. National Museums Liverpool has also worked closely with a variety of organisations including Historic England, Merseyside Civic Society and Liverpool City Council on the development plans. "The breathtakingly beautiful mineral collection at the University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum spans the globe, with specific emphasis on minerals from Arizona and Mexico!" 💎 The design called for transparent structures to maximize natural light and a feeling of spaciousness. The high rotation rate of the specimens required extensive display flexibility, which is why the cases allow easy rearrangement of internals. To preserve the historic building's floors, we used spreader plates and engineered our display cases to be as light as possible. Another important feature of the exhibit design is the audiovisual technology which seamlessly integrated in the cases. Meyvaert was selected to provide 67 showcases, including recessed wall cases, wall-standing and freestanding cases. Our scope also covered internal elements, such as shelves, podiums, and scrims. what could be more inspiring than an adventure with the whales in the far arctic north of Andenes, a beautiful small town on Lofoten Islands of Norway?   Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) and TAMSCHICK MEDIA SPACE are honored by the trust placed in us by The Whale to join their team and to design and realize a truly remarkable and uniquely inspired vision. For us The Whale represents an opportunity to develop a place-based educational attraction in Andenes, Norway, which is known as a meeting point for whales of different species who gather there seasonally over the millennia. Our contribution will be to create a unique visitor experience on this place that is centered around the goal of an empathetic encounter between humans and whales. This experience should resonate both intellectually, physically, and emotionally. Our design process will incorporate community participation, artistic expression, sustainable strategies, scientific knowledge, multi-sensory exploration, and learning. Bringing the untold stories of Britain’s wartime codebreakers to life 🕵️♀️ During WWII, Block A at Bletchley Park, known as The Intelligence Factory, was a top-secret hub where over 9500 people (75% women!) decoded enemy communications. Nearly 80 years later, The Intelligence Factory has been transformed into an exhibition, revealing the personal stories and pivotal moments of Bletchley Park’s operations from 1942 to 1945. Leach collaborated with Marcon Fit-Out, fit-out contractors, and Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA), designers, for Bletchley Park’s largest exhibition on site which included: 🔍 Over 1,000 graphics including large-scale MDF wall wraps and Tyvek tabs 🔍 Detailed overlays of maps with projected graphics and map pins 🔍 Bespoke printed books and interactive clipboards 🔍 Interpretation panels with audio interactives Dan Deakin, our Business Development Director, says, “Working in such a historic setting was an honour.
