🌐 Why Unified Backend & Server Orchestration is the Secret to Seamless Gaming Experiences In game development, especially with live-service multiplayer games, smooth backend services, and responsive server orchestration are a must for delivering an exceptional player experience. But when you’re juggling multiple vendors to handle these critical functions, things can get… complicated. 🎮 At RallyHere, we’ve taken a different approach—unifying backend and server orchestration into a single, streamlined platform. Here’s why this matters: 1️⃣ Simplified Operations: With everything in one place, RallyHere’s system reduces miscommunications and sync issues, cutting down on coordination headaches. 2️⃣ Fast Issue Resolution: With our integrated LiveOps tools, your team can troubleshoot in real time, resolving backend or server issues directly without the usual vendor back-and-forth. 3️⃣ Scalability Made Easy: Whether your servers are on Azure, AWS, or bare metal, RallyHere’s platform can scale dynamically to match demand, keeping your game live and stable. 🔥 Real-World Impact: Just ask the SMITE 2 team! During its alpha phase, RallyHere’s unified orchestration scaled to meet 10,000 CCU seamlessly, all while keeping players in-game without interruption. In an industry where every second counts, RallyHere’s approach simplifies game operations, enhances accountability and keeps players engaged. 2 More Gods added to SMITE 2! Welcome Ra and Sobek ☀️ ❤️ 🐊 You may have noticed that we're ramping up releases and delivering more Gods to players at a faster rate. In this post, I’d like to share how Minui Lee, DJ Curtin and I collaborated with RallyHere to create a tool that accelerates our process for getting Gods across the finish line. When working with complex systems, finding efficiencies is essential. Minui and I reviewed the UE5 engine assets that the team had manually created for each God during Alpha weekends and realized that significant time was being spent setting these up individually. UE5 also has a tendency to retain metadata when assets are duplicated, which can lead to issues like lost references, redirectors, or even characters inadvertently using the wrong stats. We began by consulting with teams across the project to understand the requirements for a “Baseline Character” and determine what assets and references would be necessary. For those interested in the technical details, we looked at String Tables, Apparel Tables, Data Tables, Curve Tables, Textures, Blueprints, Niagara Systems, and Item Assets. Each God in SMITE 2 has a unique kit, animations, character models, etc., but they all share a foundational setup we could automate. I developed a comprehensive 60-page design document outlining the required assets, hooks, and database information needed to create a “God Creation Tool.” DJ and Minui then set up templates for characters and skins, while Minui handled the backend code to bring the tool to life. Minui and I worked together on DT we used for the tool to ensure all of the character information was correctly being set and populating. Using Unreal’s Data Tables, we were able to automate the setup for each God, which has saved our team significant time and energy. Now, they can focus on refining each God’s unique abilities instead of getting bogged down in the initial setup. With RallyHere, we can also easily set Gods as “active” or “inactive” depending on their development status. The tool integrates with RallyHere’s database to create item IDs, generate loot formulas, and toggle items on and off within vendors (visible to both devs and players in our builds). This is just one of the tools we’ve developed using RallyHere and Unreal, but it’s definitely a favorite of mine. We’re continually working to improve quality of life for our team and streamline our pipelines here on SMITE 2. See you on the battlegrounds!
