Public schools are more segregated today than they were a half century ago. A Supreme Court ruling, handed down 50 years ago this week, significantly limited federal efforts to desegregate schools. But we aren't doomed to accept segregated schools as our destiny. There is still a lot that states can and should do to reverse educational inequities and create a system where all students have the support they need to reach their full potential. Every student brings a unique background and identity into their classrooms and they all need different things to thrive. But, at best, our current system treats all students as identical and at worst, it fails to give students in poverty, students of color, or students with high needs adequate support. This dynamic report from EdTrust and Education Resource Strategies uses data to show how inequities in our education system affect students and the key factors that impact whether students can access a high-quality learning experience. https://lnkd.in/gQJHe5PH

This year, over 500 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced so far and 34 have passed, harming young people and their families every day. The good news is that a powerful resistance led by parents, advocates and young people is now turning the tide. As our co-founder Tricia Raikes writes, we can all learn from those standing up against these attacks. Because at the end of the day, protecting LGBTQ people from harm is a shared responsibility. https://lnkd.in/ghrewuw9

Homelessness presents unique challenges for young people who may be pushed out of home because of family disagreements or other obstacles and then struggle to access housing and other services because of their age. Penalizing young people for living unsheltered, as the Supreme Court's recent ruling allows, will only make things worse. Read more about the harmful impacts the Johnson V. Grants Pass decision will have on youth and young adults experiencing homelessness: https://lnkd.in/eKWq7it8
