Sourcing our materials responsibly is a key pillar of our See Beyond™ #sustainability strategy. Today we are proud to announce that our sites at Santa Perpetua, Spain, and Uithoorn, Netherlands are both certified through the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). In 2023, over 60% of our volume of palm oil and Palmoleine was certified through the RSPO, and we aspire to reach 100% by 2025. It’s all part of ensuring that every stage of our supply and value chain, from raw materials through to our customers’ operations, benefits from continual improvements in sustainability performance. Because we’re all on the same journey, and we’re here to help you see beyond today to what’s possible tomorrow. To conclude #Pride Month, our employees share their personal coming out stories and talk about how Quaker Houghton has inspired and empowered them to bring their true selves to work every day. Lindsey Key, Lindsey Key, Manager of Creative Design and Multimedia: “I have been at Quaker Houghton for 10 Years, through a lot of evolutions and transformations.   Even though one might think of our industry – industrial manufacturing – as being dominated by white males, I’ve learned not to discount or stereotype it because it is the people who make the culture and allow for that acceptance, which is exactly what I’ve found at Quaker Houghton. Of course, there is always more work to be done to improve but that is part of building the diverse and inclusive culture that we’re creating here.   As a founder and co-leader of our PRIDE Colleague Resource Group (CRG) and part of the Culture and Engagement Taskforce, focused on creating opportunities for colleagues to share their stories and raise greater awareness of the diversity within our organization, I look forward to seeing Quaker Houghton evolve even further that it has since I started here 2014. I am excited about bringing the PRIDE CRG to life, and seeing how that allows us to shine even more light on the amazing culture we are building at Quaker Houghton.”

To conclude #Pride Month, our employees share their personal coming out stories and talk about how Quaker Houghton has inspired and empowered them to bring their true selves to work every day. Lindsey Key, Manager of Creative Design and Multimedia: “I have only semi-recently come out publicly as a transwoman. This has been a major milestone for me and has brought so much love and joy back to my life.  Once I came out publicly in my personal life, I decided it was time to come out publicly at work. As many who identify as a member of the LGBTQIA community know all too well, coming out at work comes with a lot of pressure, especially if you are one of the first, which I was at the time. I was nervous for many reasons: external stereotypes, my personal concerns about whether the company was ready, how I would be received and so on. But I did what I do in so many other parts of my life: I drove forward and figured things out.   First, I came out to my close work friends, then my team, and finally the company at large. I am the Manager of Creative Design and Multimedia at Quaker Houghton – a very global role – so that made me nervous. But having the acceptance of my friends, team, and colleagues gave me the confidence to be my whole self at work. As I was one of the first to come out publicly as trans at the company, there were a lot of procedures to develop, but we worked through that and hopefully I’ve blazed a trail for anyone who comes out at Quaker Houghton in the future.”

To conclude #Pride Month, our employees share their personal coming out stories and talk about how Quaker Houghton has inspired and empowered them to bring their true selves to work every day. Kelly McGrath, HR Operations Lead: “Helping launch the Pride Colleague Resource Group (CRG) has been an amazing experience, and the support that Quaker Houghton has provided has been fantastic – from the other founding members to the Culture and Engagement team to the HR leadership team, including our Executive Sponsor and Chief Human Resources Officer, Melissa Leneis. It has been a truly fulfilling experience. I’m looking forward what the future holds for the Pride CRG and Quaker Houghton as we continue to create a more inclusive future for all, and not just those who work for us.”

To conclude #Pride Month, our employees share their personal coming out stories and talk about how Quaker Houghton has inspired and empowered them to bring their true selves to work every day. Kelly McGrath, HR Operations Lead: “Growing up gay was never an issue in my family. I was raised in the Republic of Ireland, and while my family was very Catholic, they were also very accepting. Two of my mother’s five siblings are gay and have been out since the 1980’s, when it was still illegal to be gay in Ireland. And my family and friends were very active in the campaign to make Ireland the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage in 2015. In my professional life, reactions to my sexuality were less certain. There are very few global corporations in my hometown. Most businesses are family-owned. For this reason, I sometimes found it hard to bring my whole, authentic self to work. When I joined Quaker Houghton, I was cautious based on past experiences. But very quickly, I learned that the company acts according to its Core Values, namely Embrace Diversity and Act with Integrity. Finally, I felt like I could be myself in my professional life as well as my personal life.”

In the spirit of acceptance, authenticity, and equality that define #Pride Month, we are launching our PRIDE Colleague Resource Group (CRG), dedicated to supporting the #LGBTQIA community and its allies at Quaker Houghton. Like our other CRGs that serve women, veterans, new colleagues, and the next generation of Quaker Houghton talent, the PRIDE CRG reaffirms our company-wide commitment to creating a #diverse, #inclusive, and supportive workplace. CRGs are voluntary, colleague-led groups within our organization that promote belonging and #allyship among CRG members and other colleagues, play a key role in attracting the best #talent, and further strengthen the cultural fabric of our company for all. As Quaker Houghton’s Chief Human Resources Officer and the executive sponsor for the PRIDE CRG, I am thrilled to join my LGBTQIA colleagues and their supporters in contributing to positive change in our communities. Happy Pride! – Melissa Leneis, EVP and CHRO, Quaker Houghton
