  • Putzel Electrical Contractors, Inc. is helping Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC to expand a The Salvation Army shelter for unhoused people in Atlanta. Located near Centennial Olympic Park, the project will double the size of the current facility and increase the number of shelter beds from 321 to 437. Plans call for two floors of dormitory-style housing for male residents, and another two floors of individualized living spaces. The project will also include an Education and Workforce Development Center that will offer services to residents such as housing solutions, financial education, emergency assistance programs, and other programs designed to support veteran services. We are looking forward to work getting started this year!

  • The Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) annual fundraising golf tournament takes place on Tuesday, May 14th. Putzel is proud to sponsor the event benefiting the expansion of the NGHS Braselton Emergency Department. Built in 2015, NGHS Braselton ED was built to serve 25,000 visits a year. With more than 52,000 visits in 2022, the need for expansion is vital to the region. The Cheryl Shippey Memorial golf tournament, previously called the Laurel Classic, is named in memory of Cheryl Shippey, a beloved NGHS Foundation team member. She was well-known in the Braselton community for her work on NGHS Braselton’s Inaugural Campaign and was instrumental in the creation of the Laurel Classic.

  • We are becoming experts in Hospital Emergency Room projects! Putzel was recently awarded another contract on the Northeast Georgia Health System Braselton Tower Expansion project. Working with Turner Construction, we are helping to increase the number of treatment rooms in the Emergency Department from 23 to 46. The goal is to help the facility care for more people quickly and efficiently. The renovation is planned to be completed in late 2026. Back in 2019-2020, we worked with Structor Group to renovate the emergency room of Emory Midtown Hospital. Not only was the emergency room in operation the entire time, and the typical ICRA controls in place, the Emory renovation occurred at the onset of the pandemic – when the emergency room was in high demand. The Putzel team demonstrated the ability to work in the most difficult work environments without incident. • Here’s something you don’t see every day – the enormous electrical service required to power a hospital from the transformer – in this case, three 3,000 AMP transformers. In the picture on the right, the Putzel team is installing (36) 4” conduits into two electrical duct banks. (The team made sure they could continue to work during a rainstorm and installed the brown tarp for cover.) Putzel would like to give recognition to General Contractor at Brasfield & Gorrie who made the narrow, below-grade space safe for our team to work in. On the left side of the photo is a concrete retaining wall and, on the right, the side of the excavation is engineered for safety with soil pins and shotcrete. The photo on the left shows the other side of the retaining wall. The conduit goes through a blocked-out space in the retaining wall into this three-branched configuration. Each individual branch will connect to a 3,000 AMP transformer -- this area will collectively be the utility yard for the Energy Plant. The complexity of this electrical infrastructure scope shows Putzel’s capacity for a wide range of project complexity. We currently have a team of 12 on this project.
