Ready for some more good climate news? :) 🐆 The Iberian lynx, once on the verge of extinction, is making a significant recovery after 20 years of conservation efforts. They will continue to be monitored, along with subpopulations. 🌳 New research shows that hidden microbes on tree bark absorb methane, making trees 10% more beneficial for the climate overall than previously thought. 👩⚖️ Thanks to a landmark Climate Superfund Law passed in Vermont, major fossil fuel companies can now be held financially responsible for climate change damages. 📉 Experts say global climate pollution has reached a tipping point, marking a crucial step towards reducing emissions and stabilizing the global climate. 🌱 Two Millettia sacleuxii trees—previously thought extinct—have been spotted in Tanzania. Thousands of seeds have been collected and germinated for a reforestation project. 🔋 Renewable energy has met all of California's electricity needs for an average of several hours each day for 100 days. This proves that clean energy can work on a massive scale. 🦜 A new study shows that 40% of the Amazon region can be conserved, compared to the 28% in official records. Indigenous peoples and local communities have been key groups in reaching these conservation achievements. 🦋 The United States Environmental Protection Agency identified and drafted insecticide protections for over 850 species. The final version is due by August 30.

About a year ago, I figured I could afford at least a fancy cup of coffee each month so I set up a set-and-forget monthly subscription for £5. So far, that equals 3.4 tons of CO2 offset via 15 climate action projects. Today, I'm in the privileged position to be able to up it to £20 which is 303% of my monthly carbon emissions. If you're like me and you're always 'meaning to' try and do something for charity or against climate change, I highly recommend subscribing to Wren to fund climate action. 🌍 No extra incentive for me by the way. Wren just plant extra trees when people use a referral link. 🎉 If a few people start donating from my link, we get a cool virtual forest to visualise the impact. So that's neat. 😄

Today is the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. These unique coastal ecosystems play a vital role in sequestering CO₂, protecting our shorelines, and supporting marine biodiversity! Despite their importance, mangroves face significant threats from deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Conservation efforts are crucial to preserving these valuable ecosystems—and you can support mangrove projects in Mexico and Myanmar through your Wren subscription. I'm excited to share that Wren has added Blue Forest to our portfolio of climate solutions! Blue Forest works to restore and protect forests, watersheds, ecosystems, and communities in the Western United States by reintroducing forest management practices rooted in science and partnerships. This work is critical, especially for those in the West who experience first-hand the increasing frequency and destructiveness of high-severity wildfires. These fires are exacerbated by decades of fire suppression and a changing climate, which have significantly altered how our forests look today. What I love about Blue Forest is their effective payment for ecosystem services model. This aspect stood out to me back in 2020 when Micah Elias, PhD presented Blue Forest's work to my class while I was completing my master's at the University of California, Berkeley. I am grateful for this full-circle moment and thrilled that Wren is now contributing to Blue Forest's vital efforts! A big thank you to my fellow MDP alums, Seren Pendleton-Knoll, for guiding Wren through our due diligence process, and Aidana Rakhimova for spearheading the initial exploration of a Wren x Blue Forest partnership.

Join us in welcoming two new projects to the Wren family 🌱 🍂 Our underground biomass storage project with Graphyte removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by turning unwanted biomass such as sawmill residues and rice hulls into carbon blocks, then storing these blocks in a designated site to prevent decomposition and ensure there is no release of greenhouse gas emissions. 🌿 Our forest resilience against wildfires project with Blue Forest restores and protects forests, watersheds, ecosystems, and communities in the Western United States by catalyzing funds and partners needed to accelerate ecological restoration projects. This helps to mitigate the risk of catastrophic wildfires and create a more resilient future. Which other projects would you like to see added to our climate portfolios? #Biomass #CDR #CarbonRemoval #Nature #WildfirePrevention

Do you buy stuff on Amazon? Although the company is making efforts to become more sustainable, the bigger issue is what and how much we're buying. Many of us purchase more than we need, and each item has a carbon footprint associated with materials, production, transport, and disposal. This behavior is accelerating climate change, but together we can modify our habits to create positive outcomes. Visit the link in the comments to learn more about our Tech-enabled rainforest protection project and donate to the fundraiser. * * * * * #protecttheenvironment #natureconservation #loveourplanet #stopdeforestation #sustainability #amazonprimeday #consumerism #TakeAction #EarthDayEveryDay #InvestInOurplanet #climateemergency #WhatWillYouDo

Ready for some good climate news? :) 🦋 The European Union approves a first-of-its-kind Nature Restoration Law to help bring back biodiversity, aiming to restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030 and all degraded ecosystems by 2050. 💸 The International Energy Agency reports that global investment in clean energy will overtake fossil fuel spending in 2024. Clean energy investments are estimated to hit $2T in 2024, twice the amount going into fossil fuels. ✌️ Youth activists win an unprecedented climate settlement in Hawaii, with the state's Department of Transportation given a deadline to fully decarbonize and achieve zero emissions by 2045. ⚡️ Only 23% of Malawi’s population has access to electricity. Now, thanks to funding from the World Bank and other impact investors, solar powered electricity is becoming affordable for even low-income households in the area. 🇲🇽 Mexico elects former climate scientist Claudia Sheinbaum as its first female president. As the country faces a handful of issues only worsened by climate change, voters make their priorities clear. 🇻🇦 Pope Francis ordered the construction of a solar farm to cover the energy needs of the smallest country in the world: the Vatican City State. The solar farm is to be managed by the Vatican's central bank and built in Santa Maria Galeri. 🇨🇭 Switzerland approved a law to boost renewable energy, notably "an important milestone for strengthening security of supply" in the country, especially in winter. Official results showed that just under 69% of Swiss voters backed the law. 👷 New research shows that adding nitrogen to concrete could significantly reduce greenhouse gases. By 2050, it could reduce NOx by a total of 131-384 Mt—the equivalent of 75–260 years lost to premature death and reduced quality of life.

4 days left to donate to Wren's CDR fundraiser for Charm Industrial. Every donation is tax-deductible and *matched* dollar-for-dollar: https://lnkd.in/dtjUc7j8 This is a rare opportunity for individuals to donate to Charm Industrial, a long-time partner of Wren and one of the world's premiere carbon removal companies. Charm Industrial uses best-in-class methods to remove carbon from the atmosphere. They collect biomass residues and converts them into a stable, carbon-rich liquid called bio-oil. This bio-oil is injected into EPA-regulated wells deep underground where it sinks and solidifies in place for permanent storage. Recently, Charm Industrial was recognized by the DOE and XPrize for their trailblazing working in carbon removal.
