Hurricane #Beryl made landfall in Houston yesterday as a Category 1 hurricane. Here's what you need to know: 🚫 The #Port of Houston is closed while damage and repair assessments are underway. 🚢 Over 250 vessels, mainly tankers, face delays near Houston. This is critical as Texas is crucial for the U.S. gasoline supply. 🔌 Houston is seeing widespread flooding and millions of people are without power amid a heatwave, which may take weeks to restore. The people of Houston and those affected by this storm are in our thoughts. Please follow local guidelines for safety during this time. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as we learn more.

Japan's Transport and Tourism Ministry is tackling road congestion, pollution, and labor shortages with an ambitious plan. Their solution? A 310-mile #automated underground system to transport packages between Tokyo and Osaka 📦 This project aims to handle the #cargo of 25,000 trucks daily and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And they're sparking a trend—countries like Switzerland, China, and the Netherlands are exploring similar systems. Do you think this will be a game-changer for #transportation, or will it fall flat? 🤔

As Tropical Storm Beryl approaches Texas, significant disruptions are anticipated along the Gulf Coast, particularly affecting the critical ports of Houston and Corpus Christi. The storm, which recently caused severe damage in the Atlantic, may escalate to a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall in Texas, on July 8th. In response, port operations have been limited, with the Port of Corpus Christi already closed, and the Port of Houston expected to close by Monday morning (Jul. 8), and tanker vessels likely to experience the most impact. These ports play a crucial role in the U.S. gasoline supply and serve as major import hubs. The impending storm is expected to cause increased dwell and berthing times, particularly at the Port of Houston, potentially affecting various industries and exacerbating challenges during the peak shipping season for holiday goods. There are approximately 250 vessels near the path of Beryl likely to be impacted (see map on page 2).    While we have made it a priority to provide frequent updates on this, the safety of all people impacted by the storm remains our top concern. Our thoughts are with them and their families during this time. We urge everyone to follow local guidelines for safety and take all necessary precautions.
