  • PEC takes great pride in designing public safety facilities, and we're excited to highlight our recent work on the City of Andover's fire stations. This project included the renovation of Fire Station 1 and the design and construction of the new Fire Station 2. This work allowed both facilities to incorporate modern, highly functional spaces as well as provide increased measures to protect the firefighters against carcinogens. The addition of the second fire station has helped in the reduction of response times to a large portion of the city. PEC worked with our partners at TESSERE on the project and provided electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering services. • Flying from western Kansas to Dallas, Texas just got a whole lot better. The Garden City Regional Airport has been in operation since 1959 and provides daily airline flights as well as private and charter flights to travelers in the region. PEC partnered with HNTB for the design of the terminal that includes an updated ticket counter, security checkpoint, state-of-the-art amenities, and updated technology. Coming in at just under 23,000 square feet, the terminal's gate capacity was also doubled from one gate to two. We provided electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and site utility services for this project. Read more about it here: https://hubs.ly/Q02Lqgy20 #PEC #LifeEngineered #GardenCityKS

  • The electrification of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems has become an increasingly important trend in the AEC industry in recent years. As more states pledge goals of going 100% renewable in the next 20-30 years, local municipalities and building owners are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint – increasing the demand for electric HVAC systems. Renewable energy is the fastest growing energy source in the country, and electric HVAC systems use those "clean" sources to heat and cool buildings while also reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In some cases, it could also mean decreased energy usage and reduced operating and maintenance costs for building owners. PEC recently performed a 25-year study for Larimer County, Colorado exploring a fully electrified mechanical system versus a traditional gas/electrical system for their emergency services building. We found that while a geothermal system was the most costly, it resulted in the least carbon emissions over 25 years. And with tax credits, the system was competitive in first cost and the best life cycle cost. The demand for electric HVAC systems has led to changes in building designs for the AEC industry, as these systems often require different infrastructure and layout compared to traditional fossil fuel systems. With the widespread adoption of electrification and energy efficiency measures, the HVAC industry has the potential to significantly reduce global CO2 emissions. • On National Aviation Day, we're highlighting Nick Moore, a pilot and PEC's Survey Processing Team Lead. Nick's love for flying was instilled in him from an early age, but it wasn't until he was well into his career at PEC that he decided to obtain his pilot's license. While working on a large project, Nick was able to fly with a manufacturer on a jet for a quick business trip. It was on that flight that he became fascinated with what was happening in the cockpit. Just two weeks later, he signed up for flight school and began his pilot training. "It took that specific event to push me over the edge to start flight training, and I have PEC to thank for that," said Nick, who has been with the company for 18 years and counting. #PEC #LifeEngineered #EmployeeProfile

  • Congratulations to the City of Valley Center on the completion of Phase 1 of the Meridian Avenue project. This project is set to provide essential infrastructure to improve the city's road network and enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors. The project scope includes full reconstruction of streets and curbs, multiuse paths, additions to the stormwater system, waterline improvements, and street lighting. To minimize disruptions to the community, the project will be completed in several phases. The first phase was completed just this month. PEC provided field survey, municipal, municipal transportation, electrical, City Engineer, inspection, construction administration, and materials testing services. A big thank you to all of our partners on this project: City of Valley Center Kansas, Sedgwick County Government, Pearson Construction, LLC, Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), and Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO). • Energize communities, guide the way. The PEC Oklahoma City team recently demonstrated this by volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. In just under three hours, they helped load 410 food boxes, which totaled 10,592 meals and weighing 12,710 lbs. These dedicated team members represent PEC's commitment to the cities we live and work in. But we're not just doing business; we're helping to create vibrant and thriving communities. https://hubs.ly/Q02KRMPv0 #PEC #PEClife #OKC
