Our goal is to make food allergy prevention accessible for every parent by providing essential resources and education.
About us
Prevent Allergies Foundation is a nonprofit entity that seeks to educate all new parents and caregivers about the dangers of food allergies and how they can be prevented. We are committed to making food allergy prevention accessible for every parent and together, we can prevent food allergies to give children a healthier future. Food allergies are a growing epidemic with over 6 million American children under 18 suffering from a food allergy. That’s 1 in 13 children, or an average of 2 in every classroom. And these allergies can often be life-threatening: a food allergy sends someone to the emergency room every two minutes. While there is still no cure for food allergies, it is possible to prevent them. New research shows that feeding allergens like peanut, egg, and milk early and often can prevent up to 80% of food allergies. Because of this landmark research, new guidelines from leading health organizations (including the USDA, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Institutes of Health) now recommend early allergen introduction for every baby. While these new recommendations can help reverse the troubling trend of food allergy rates, parents often struggle with feeding allergens to their baby. In fact, in one of the landmark studies on food allergy prevention, only 50% of participants could successfully feed allergens early and often, indicating that early and sustained introduction is difficult to achieve at such a young age. We hope that by providing parents and providers with our evidence-based resources and education on food allergy prevention, we can prevent food allergies and make a difference in the lives of many children.

🎉BREAKING NEWS🎉 We are one step closer to ending the food allergy epidemic thanks to a bill in Delaware (HB 274) that successfully made its way through the Economic Development, Insurance, & Commerce committee today with a unanimous vote of approval! In partnership with Dr. Jonathan Spergel, we wrote a lobbying letter expressing our strong support for HB 274, a bill in Delaware that would require all health insurance plans, including Medicaid, to provide for early allergen introduction supplements. Early allergen introduction has been proven to reduce the risk of developing a food allergy, and this bill will help make it accessible to all parents in the state. A special thank you to Dr. Jackie Bjelac, MD, director of the Food Allergy Center of Excellence at Cleveland Clinic, who was a signer on the the letter and also helped us testify for the committee today supporting the legislation. Bills like HB 274 are an important step in advancing public health and we hope to see more states follow Delaware’s lead in the near future. We'd also like to thank everyone who joined the lobbying letter (in alphabetical order): Katherine Anagnostou, MD PhD; Drew Bird, MD; Jackie Bjelac, MD; Michael Blaiss, MD, FACAAI, FAAAAI; Terri Brown-Whitehorn, MD; Allison Burbank, MD; Peter Capucilli, MD; Steven Czinn, MD, FAAP, FACG, AGAF; Christina Ciaccio, MD, MSc; Carla M.
