While I am a strong believer that plastics have huge potential to replace numerous metal parts in pursue of light weight, green house gas reduction and productivity improvement , I also see growing risk of plastic components developed without thorough consideration on plastic behavior, which may endanger our life eventually. One of the critical plastic behavior to consider as a metal substitute if running at high temperature environment is "Creep". Recently, while driving my 12 years old car, my car lost its power steering with battery warning signal popped off on my dash, all of a sudden. As an automotive engineer, I could easily imagine it would be accessory drive belt(surpentine belt) related issue and found the belt came off by itself. To my interest, surpentine belt and belt tensioner were all with good working condition. Then, how could the belt come off by itself ? After deep RCA(Root Causes Analysis), I found it was caused by the creep of idler pulley and tensioner pulley deformed like taper shape as shown. Never imagined plastic creep may endanger our life like this. If you are looking for better plastic material option against plastic creep especially sustainable, our waste carpet based Ecolon PA6 and PA66 could be a excellent choice owing to its superior creep resistance from high crystallinity. Happy new year to all my networks!

If weight loss analyzer is used for moisture measurement, this will help to learn why proper test parameter setting is critical to get right moisture content measured. Many molders tend to operate weight loss moisture analyzer just using embedded machine setting already programmed by equipment manufacturer, and got into numerous quality issues due to wrong moisture reading. As we pursue sustainable polymer resins, accurate moisture content measurement will be another challenge due to different moisture absorption and drying speed of sustainable materials. Please check this out to learn why. #Polymermoisture #moistureanalyzer #Polymerdrying #weightloss #Karlfishertitration #injectionmolding

Polymer Drying One of the most frequently asked question by customers is " What is your material's drying condition? " After working for many customers, I came to a conclusion that PA6 and PA66 as well as some low melting point TPO are the usual culpit of making molders so confused at drying condition. I've been playing with PA6 and PA66 for over couple of decades at many different areas including plastic product design, CAE, mold tool development, injection molding process engineering, material engineering, etc, but indeed nothing easy with PA6, PA66, and even drying............... #Polymerdrying #injectionmolding #processengineering #PA6 #PA66
