A new The National Institutes of Health - supported study has revealed a critical gap in public knowledge about addiction treatment. Most Americans are unaware that primary care physicians can prescribe medications for opioid use disorder, highlighting a significant barrier to accessing vital care.    Key findings from the study, published in JAMA Network Open include:    • 77% of respondents did not know primary care doctors could prescribe addiction treatment.  • Only 23% were aware of this treatment option.  • 77% expressed comfort with receiving addiction treatment from a primary care physician.    This lack of awareness is particularly concerning given that there are approximately 209,000 primary care physicians in the U.S., compared to fewer than 2,500 addiction medicine specialists. Channeling addiction treatment through primary care could have a substantial public health impact. The study highlights the urgent need for increased public awareness campaigns, like those for HIV testing and cancer screening. By educating the public about the availability of addiction treatment in primary care settings, we can potentially improve access to life-saving medications and support for those struggling with opioid use disorder.    #AddictionTreatment #PrimaryCare #OpioidCrisis

Precision team members Stephanie and Nathaniel exhibited at the 45th annual Addiction Treatment Leadership conference this week!    The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers - NAATP is a nonprofit professional society that represents hundreds of not-for-profit and for-profit addiction treatment providers who offer critical services along the full continuum of care, from intervention, transportation, private therapy, outpatient care, hospitalization, residential treatment, and continuing/aftercare.     The conference featured presentations, workshops, and discussions on the most pressing issues impacting our field today.
