Welcome to Tony’s Trade Talk, I will be discussing different tools/equipment and PPE that are commonly used in the Construction Trades that could be of benefit. Today we are to talk about Flash Flooding June is Flood Awareness Month. If a flash flood warning is issued for your area: • Drive only if absolutely necessary. Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. The depth of the water is not always obvious. The roadbed may be washed out under the water, and you could be stranded or trapped. • Never drive around a barricade. Be especially cautious at night. • Stay off bridges that are over water. • Stop tailgating you should practice the three-second distance rule. • Don’t pull over, travel at the same speed, and only pull over after you have safely left the roadway and into a parking lot. • Wipers on, headlights on, hazard lights off. Using hazard lights while moving, can confuse other drivers and creates to many rooms for errors. • Look for downed power lines. • If you come upon a flowing stream where fast-moving water is above your ankles, turn around, don’t drown. Six inches of swift-moving water can knock you off your feet. • Children should never play around high water, storm drains, or viaducts. • Don’t use electricity in a home that’s flooded or leave it on if you’re evacuating. If water touches live electrical outlets, you could be electrocuted, or it could cause a devastating fire. • Have a weather emergency kit packed and ready to go ahead of time.
