🚨 Renewable Energy Jobs Reach 16.2 Million Globally! The 2024 edition of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Renewable Energy & Jobs report shows solar energy ☀️ leading the charge with 7.2M jobs in 2023. However, this impressive growth has been uneven across regions. A skilled workforce is crucial for a successful energy transition, especially for young people. Education and training not only make individuals more employable but are also essential for meeting climate goals and ensuring a just transition. 🌱 The report highlights the growing interest in localizing supply chains, driven by industrial policies that aim to create more domestic jobs. However, protectionist policies and geopolitical challenges present obstacles. To ensure a fair and sustainable transition, public policies, private sector initiatives, and civil society efforts must align to balance environmental, economic, and social sustainability. While markets can drive change, we need a people- and planet-centric approach to shape the future of energy. 🔗 Read the full report: https://t.ly/MuNBU #PoweringJobs #EndEnergyPovertyFaster

⚡ Last Friday Power for All hosted a panel as part of the UN Energy #SDG7ActionForum, during #UNGA and #ClimateWeekNYC 2024, where we discussed the current state of #SDG7. While the number of connections over the past decade grew significantly (globally), we are not on track to meet our targets by 2030. This is particularly concerning for #SubSaharanAfrica, where most of the energy poor live, as population is currently growing faster than electrification— implying it will take infinite time to achieve universal access. Tombo Banda, Vikram Singh, Bishal Thapa, Ifeoma Malo, and Kristina Skierka discussed the role of energy partnerships, with a specific focus on integrated energy models, as a means to both accelerate electrification and reduce costs, in order to end energy poverty faster. Some of the key takeaways were that partnerships and energy planning are crucial to de-risk investments, make value chains more efficient, democratize energy access, and mostly make it easier for money to flow into the sector—which is still the largest barrier preventing scale. Thank you, panelists, for the amazing discussion and all the attendees for the engagement. Looking forward to many more of these! #endenergypovertyfaster

📢 #OutNow! Millions of people across rural Africa and South Asia still live without access to electricity. The latest report from Efficiency for Access highlights the gap in access to off-grid solar appliances and the urgent need to scale up efforts in the sector. The report, part of the State of the Off-Grid Appliance Market series, reveals that while the off-grid solar sector has strong fundamentals, it needs to grow rapidly in scale and ambition to avoid leaving people behind. 🌍 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eMB7jk5Z CLASP, Energy Saving Trust #EnergyAccess #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #OffGrid #RenewableEnergy #Development #LeaveNoOneBehind
