As consulting engineers, we are always thrilled when our designs come to fruition. Capital Power’s dual-fuel Genesee Generating Station is no exception! In 2020, we completed detailed engineering and design in partnership with Mitsubishi Power to support the facility’s transition from coal-fired to natural gas-fired power. The project included the addition of gas-firing piping, burners, electrical, and controls necessary for the plant to go 100% gas-fired. Now, in 2024, the Genesee Generating Station will be 100% natural gas powered, producing 40% less emissions into the atmosphere for each megawatt of power delivered to their client. A huge congratulations to Capital Power on this accomplishment! Read more about the recent transition in their media release: https://lnkd.in/gaEFqbaS

In the consulting world, it’s common to generate written work for clients, agencies, or the public. This may include emails, texts, presentations, data, formal reports, and studies. Regardless of the format, however, good documentation is essential for both credibility and project success. In the latest issue of our Environmental newsletter, Currents, Jackson Walker LLP attorneys Kirk Rasmussen and Craig Bennett debunk common myths and offer suggestions for effective documentation practices. We're back with another POWER Spotlight featuring Ivan Bukhantsov, a standout POWER team member since 2022! Ivan is a software developer on our Visualization team, bringing expertise in web technologies and interactive 3-D tech stacks to design and build custom web applications that create fun and meaningful experiences for our clients' online visitors. Our supportive and friendly culture has made working for POWER different from previous experiences. "Our Visualization team is a close-knit group that takes pride in helping each other out. You can feel that collaboration and support drive our culture. Nobody is concerned about asking for help or worried someone will take over their work. We prioritize getting the job done well and delivering the best applications and solutions that we can." Ivan's journey to POWER as a software developer was driven by his love for coding and creativity. He started coding in high school and got a job as a web developer while studying in college. His creativity goes beyond his work. In his spare time, he enjoys painting and building video games. One of Ivan's favorite projects was collaborating with our 3-D team on our 2023 interactive Holiday Card. Projects like this allow him to flex his creativity and bring ideas to life. "Coordinating all the tech stacks and working with different departments in Visualization for our holiday card project was challenging and a lot of fun. With so many moving parts on a complex project like this, our collaboration and creativity were tested. We used 3-D technology to incorporate animation and various modeling techniques, and seeing a unique project like this come to life was a rewarding experience."
