We work each and every day to ensure the Potomac River is home to clean water, healthy lands, and vibrant communities.
About us
Potomac Conservancy is a leading clean water advocate in the greater Washington, DC region. We fight to ensure the Potomac River boasts clean drinking water, healthy lands, and vibrant communities. We combine the grassroots power of over 23,000 members and online activists with land conservation and policy initiatives to restore the Potomac River to full health. We seek to improve the Potomac River’s water quality by building an impassioned base of river advocates to impart change at the local level. Founded in 1993, we drive the region’s clean water movement by providing the tools that empower local landowners, activists, volunteers, partners, donors, and all river champions to lead the charge for clean drinking water, healthy lands, and safe access to the river. The Potomac is the cleanest it’s been in generations, but rapid forest loss and extreme climate impacts are quickly increasing pollution. Our Clean Water – Healthy Communities campaign will dramatically increase the pace and scale of our conservation efforts to leave a legacy of clean water for our community. I am thrilled to announce that I will be representing Potomac Conservancy Conservancy at the Chesapeake Watershed Forum 2024 hosted by Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. I will be presenting on the vital topic of Empowering and Developing Community Champions. I am particularly proud to share the stage with a dedicated member of our volunteer leadership team, whom I have had the pleasure of training through our Volunteer Leadership Training program. Together, we aim to inspire and equip others to become champions for their communities and the environment. Looking forward to an engaging and impactful event! 🌱💧 #ChesapeakeWatershedForum #PotomacConservancy #CommunityChampions #VolunteerLeadership #EnvironmentalStewardship

Proof that you're never too young (too small, too old, or not experienced enough…) to make a difference. In March, I was invited to speak at Jamestown Elementary School about the Potomac Watershed as part of my work with the Potomac Conservancy. Well, know what these kids did with their knowledge and passion for our planet? They entered the Caring for Our Watershed Chesapeake Bay Competition – an #environmental action challenge – and WON! 🎉 The 5th grade teams came in 1st and 4th place 🌟 . Their proposals won against High School and Middle School teams. They presented at the Student Environmental Showcase and received funding for their projects to protect the #ChesapeakeBay. This week, I received an envelope stuffed full of Thank You cards from the students for helping inspire and inform their proposals. I was touched but it is US that should thank THEM. These students are the inspiration and our future. And proof that no matter how young, you can make a positive impact. 🌎 #conservation #environmentalaction #watershed
