Freight costs and duty are expenses that need to be added to your item costs. On average, the cost of your product is typically less than 50% of your total landed costs. However, the process of calculating this cost is long, especially with multiple SKUs shipped to regions with varied customs fees/taxes. But do not worry, we are here to help! 🦸 Check out our complete guide to calculating your product landed costs here: https://lnkd.in/gawsSCJM

Keeping costs down while shipping your products into the USA can be a huge challenge, thanks to customs, import duties, and taxes. But thankfully there is a little provision called Section 321. This specific provision allows US-bound qualified shipments valued at $800 or less to receive duty-free entry. So, how can you claim it? This is where we come in to simplify the clearance process for you 😉 In September 2019, the CBP rolled out a test for a new informal entry type under Section 321. Known as Type 86, it provides a faster entry process for low-value Section 321 shipments. The goals of Type 86 are: 📦 Speed up processing time 📦 Improve security 📦 Enhance interagency communication 📦 Reduce costs Using Entry Type 86, manifests of products are uploaded to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) while the packages are en route to the U.S. Most packages are cleared automatically and immediately moved to a last-mile sorting facility upon arrival in the US; a very small subset are occasionally held for an additional day or two for inspection before being cleared. Generally, the more information that is provided to the CBP, the quicker and easier the clearance process is. Curious to know if you qualify for Section 321 and how we can help. One of the most important partners you have in your business is your logistics partner. They serve as your fulfillment partners and your inventory management system. They are the direct link to your customers and the last to handle your product before it's shipped to the end customer. So, finding the right partner is crucial. But with the new wave of 4PLs entering the market, how can you know if your perfect partner is a 3PL provider or a 4PL provider? Well, let’s start off by distinguishing the two: A 4PL manages the complete supply chain, whereas a 3PL concentrates on logistics. This is the primary distinction between a 4PL and a 3PL provider. 4PL providers mainly outsource logistics management to other 3PL providers. Managing the relationship with 3PL providers instead of you. Now, for many, this would look like an upside - more hands-off for the brand - but for us, we view this as a downside. One of the many things we are proud of is our stellar account management. Our customers have 24/7 access to their account managers and have a full vertical view of customer orders and inventory. With a 4PL provider, you don’t get that same customer support. And when scaling your operations, communication is key 🔑 Want to hear more about our thoughts on 4PLs? "You could match demand and supply very closely, allowing you to have efficiency in your business, better cashflow, better margins” Our CEO, Izzy Rosenzweig, is not wrong. So why aren’t more American brands utilizing direct fulfillment from China and leveraging Section 321? Well, there is a big misconception that only China-based brands can leverage this provision. Which is a big fat lie. American brands tapping into this method of fulfillment can: 🔷 Match demand to supply very easily by leveraging JIT inventory. 🔷 Free up cash flow by having less inventory tied up. 🔷 Enhance margins by utilizing Section 321, which removes duty and tax on packages entering the USA. Section 321 is completely changing the way brands are running their supply chains. Rather than battling to eliminate Section 321, American brands should leverage it and enjoy the savings that many e-commerce brands using this provision are reaping today. Thank you Madeline Stone for giving our CEO Izzy the platform to talk about the positive side of Section 321 and how American brands can fully take advantage of it.
