Forty Years: Astronaut Dr. Anna Lee Fisher is reunited with the 911 Turbo Dr. Anna Lee Fisher started out as a medical professional – the training for which she regards as the toughest challenge she ever faced. As a reward, in 1977, she purchased a Porsche 911 Turbo – her pride and joy. Today, on the 40th anniversary of her Shuttle mission as one of the first U.S. women - and THE first mother - in space, Dr. Anna Lee Fisher looks at her journey from medical professional to mother, history-making U.S. astronaut and long time Porsche fan. "A beautiful film by Shelby Akin and JF Musial capturing a special moment (it’s fantastic to see her driving flat out!) and just one chapter in the amazing life of Dr. Fisher," said Timo Resch, Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Hear more from Timo Resch, and see the moment Dr. Fisher is reunited with the 911 Turbo. #PorschePassion #DrivenByDreams #DrivenWomen https://lnkd.in/eeeUsxar
Four decades ago, Dr. Anna Lee Fisher established her medical career and rewarded herself with a Porsche 911 Turbo – finished in Garnet Red; her dream car. And yet one she would soon say goodbye to in order to pursue a new career, a new dream, and a different kind of flying machine … On 8th November 1984, precisely 40 years ago, Dr. Fisher – one of the first U.S. women in space, and the first mother – launched on Shuttle Discovery for Mission STS-51A – a journey lasting seven days and covering three million miles, during which she captured two satellites in her role as Mission Specialist. Fast forward to 2024, and on an airfield in Houston, my colleague Shelby Akin reunited Dr. Fisher with a 911 for the first time since she parted ways with her treasured Turbo all those years ago. A beautiful film by Shelby Akin and JF Musial capturing a special moment (it’s fantastic to see her driving flat out!) and just one chapter in the amazing life of Dr. Fisher.
