Lifting Up What Works

About us

PolicyLink is a national research and action institute advancing racial and economic equity by Lifting Up What Works®. We seek to deliver and scale results in the following arenas: Equitable Economy: Promote economic inclusion and ownership to eliminate poverty, shrink inequality, and increase mobility. Healthy Communities of Opportunity: Create and maintain opportunity-rich communities in all neighborhoods and all regions of the country through strong networks and social capital, equitable development, and infrastructure investments that enable low-income people and communities of color to thrive. Just Society: Build power and expand agency to ensure that all systems and institutions are just, free of racial bias, and lead to a vibrant democracy where all, especially the most vulnerable, can participate and prosper. We succeed by weaving together four essential functions: Advocacy that advances policy change at all levels of government and across sectors. Applied research and communications that build public and political will for inclusion, justice, and broadly shared prosperity. Constituency and network engagement that empowers leaders to advance equity. Implementation capacity that connects local innovations to policy; and provides stakeholders with needed data and tools. Our work would not be possible without support from a broad array of people, organizations, and communities. Our mission is to advance racial and economic equity by Lifting Up What Works®. Help achieve policies that can ensure equity for all by lending your support. Your contribution makes Lifting Up What Works® possible and enables us to disseminate our findings and provide strategic guidance to coalitions throughout the country. Help create communities of opportunity where everyone can participate and prosper. INVEST IN EQUITY. Donate Now: https://www.policylink.org/invest

🌐 Exciting Announcement on the Horizon! 🚀 We are just a few days away from the launch of the new Civil Rights Audit Standards on Thursday, July 25th at 11:30 AM ET. These standards are poised to revolutionize how businesses approach civil rights audits, providing essential guidance for conducting independent audits that build trust and foster responsible business practices. In today's landscape, the need for businesses to uphold anti-discriminatory practices and meet stakeholder expectations is more pressing than ever. The forthcoming Civil Rights Audit Standards are anchored in principles of nondiscrimination and were developed by an independent, cross-sector committee including civil rights experts, business executives, investors, and worker advocates. Join PolicyLink, CapEQ, and other leaders behind this effort for an introduction to the Civil Rights Audit Standards, including how they will be implemented over time through the Corporate Racial Equity Alliance's Business Standards for 21st Century Leadership. Together, let’s reimagine what business is capable of. I am thrilled to highlight our recent collaboration with PolicyLink on a groundbreaking initiative focused on reparative spatial justice in land and housing policy. Our joint effort with the PolicyLink housing team, Rasheedah Phillips, Tram Hoang, and Jasmine Rangel, resulted in this insightful report titled "Grounding Justice: Toward Reparative Spatial Futures in Land and Housing". Alongside my Social Insights Research, LLC colleague Yopina G. Pertiwi, we supported this report by conducting qualitative research in which we interviewed experts and practitioners in the spatial justice field. Combined with the thought partnership, the comprehensive literature review, and the deep knowledge and expertise of Rasheedah, Tram, and Jasmine from PolicyLink this report offers a nuanced understanding of reparative spatial justice and its multifaceted nature, underscores the critical importance of adopting a reparative spatial justice framework to address longstanding inequities in housing and land policies, and advocates for transformative approaches that center on justice, reparations, and community empowerment. We are honored to have collaborated with such phenomenal partners who share our commitment to advancing equitable futures. For those interested in diving deeper, I encourage you to explore the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gKQzu_3e #LiberatoryResearch #ResearchAndEvaluation #LandJustice #Reparations #HousingJustice #Collaboration #PolicyLink #SocialInsightsResearch

President Joe Biden’s decision to listen to the people and put the country first is a bold one. In the last three years, he has helped advance equity in the nation. From his Executive Orders on Racial Equity to helping deliver clean water to communities across the country by replacing toxic lead pipes, and also recently proposing rent-control and housing legislation, this administration has affirmed its commitment to equity. We appreciate his dedication to taking a step closer to a just and fair society for all. Under President Biden’s leadership, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, was passed, providing vital funding to repair and modernize our nation’s infrastructure while creating good-paying jobs. His administration's efforts towards student loan debt forgiveness have offered hope and relief to millions of Americans burdened by debt, allowing them to pursue their dreams and contribute to our economy. President Biden acted decisively to put his administration on the side of change. On January 20, 2021, his first day in office, he signed an extraordinary order to prioritize and advance racial equity in the federal government. This bold move set the stage for significant progress in addressing the systemic barriers faced by communities of color. We at PolicyLink are proud of the strides made under his administration, recognizing that while there is much work to be done, the foundation laid by President Biden will continue to inspire and drive us toward achieving true equity and justice for all. #Equity #Justice #Infrastructure #StudentDebtRelief #RacialEquity #CleanWater #HousingJustice #PolicyChange #Leadership #PublicService

We're at a moment where history will look back, the future will look back, and our grandchildren will look back and say either, 'That's when they absolutely started on the road to getting it right', or 'That was the beginning of it all being lost.' You are living through that moment. And we are not without agency.

Thrilled to share the 5th sculpture of the  "Stories of Us" exhibit: “My Crown” by @c.d_dawson. 🌟  “My Crown” captures Cailyn's journey of self-acceptance and pride in her natural hair. For many years, she had a very complicated relationship with her hair. Straightening it to meet society's expectations was a painful ritual. This pressure, felt deeply and personally, echoes the experiences of Black people across the nation. On the sculpture, you'll see a hot comb—a symbol of both fond memories and the painful reality of conforming. Now, her hair is her crown. It's a form of expression, a celebration of who she is. This sculpture is a self-portrait, a testament to the journey towards confidence and appreciation of her natural state. It’s an act of pride and radical self-love. Let's celebrate these radical acts of self-love that break the chains of conformity. #StoriesOfUs #MyCrown #GoodTrouble #SelfLove #NaturalHair #TheCROWNAct #BlackExcellence #ArtExhibit #DetroitArt
