Who hasn't found themselves in an awkward moment, struggling to figure out what to say during a #Networking meeting? Well, not anymore! This #WisdomWednesday, we unpack how to ace a #Networking meeting and leave with valuable connections and insights. Ready to make it count? 🚀🚀 ✅ Ask targeted questions about their work and background; If they switched career paths, inquire about what made them do so. Try to understand their story → Everyone wants to share their story and experiences ✅ Briefly share your own academic and professional background; wherever possible make linkages to their experiences → People feel more comfortable when they can find something common or relatable ✅ Inquire about their industry/organization/job role and skills needed to thrive in the field ✅ If you’re actively job hunting, mention it politely. Ask if there are opportunities where you could apply your skills (e.g., data analysis, writing) and/or gain exposure to specific areas (e.g., project design, stakeholder management) ✅ End the conversation with a concrete next step, like offering to share your resume or requesting for an introduction to someone in their network. ❌ Avoid asking generic questions that you could have just learnt about from their or their organization’s website ❌ Don’t talk about yourself and your background too much ❌ Even if you are looking for a job, DO NOT start the conversation with “are you hiring” or end the conversation abruptly if they are not hiring ❌ Do not bombard them with questions. Make this a conversation and NOT a Q&A session! Pro-Tips 🎯Stay Organized: Keep notes of your conversations in a Google Sheet, including contact details and key highlights from these conversations. #Networking is a long-term game, and staying organized from Day 1 will help you stay prepared! Have we missed out something that you have found very helpful? Comment below and share your tips on #Networking.
