We were honored to support Newsapalooza at the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University. The first-of-its-kind event in Pittsburgh provided powerful sessions on the state of local news and its community impact. Thank you to Andrew Conte, Ph.D., Kimberly Palmiero, Robert Costa, John Delano, and all of the panelists for helping us celebrate local news and inspire our next generation of journalists.

The Pittsburgh Foundation was proud supporters and participants in last Friday's Newsapalooza, hosted by Point Park University's Andrew Conte, Ph.D. and the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. The day's sessions delved into serious issues in journalism like how people are receiving their news, the challenges of breaking through partisan information silos and echo chambers, and how the public's access to local issues has undergone a seismic shift with the folding of small newspapers nationwide. Thank you to all moderators and speakers including CBS News Chief Election and Campaign Correspondent Robert Costa; KDKA-TV's Political Editor Jon Delano; Pitt's Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security's professors Lara Putnam and Elise Silva, PhD, MLIS; and legendary Boston Globe Media reporter, former Spotlight editor and current editor-at-large Walter "Robby" Robinson, who said, today "people see the affirmation they crave, not the information they need." And our Foundation's Vice President of Program and Community Engagement Michelle M. took part a panel discussing how philanthropy supports local news and our region's partnership with Press Forward. We hope this becomes an annual conference for our area.

I had the privilege of covering an exciting event for local journalism in Pittsburgh with my Editor-in-Chief, Cassandra Harris, representing The Globe! Yesterday, at Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse, Christina Shih the National Press Forward initiative joined forces with Kathy Buechel from The Benter Foundation, Matt Barron from The Heinz Endowments, Douglas Root and Michelle M. from The Pittsburgh Foundation, and Andrew Conte, Ph.D., director of Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University. Stay tuned for more coverage, including highlights from Newsapalooza and the winners of the Pittsburgh Pitch! With their support, Press Forward Pittsburgh will play a crucial role in sustaining trusted news in our region. #LocalNews #PressForwardPittsburgh #Philanthropy #PointParkCMI #Newsapalooza
