Congratulations to our residents, partnering organizations and agencies for their commitment to wildfire planning and best practices. Placer County has received the 2024 Fire Risk Reduction Community designation by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, a critical factor included in the California Department of Insurance's Safer from Wildfires initiative. Today, the California State Association of Counties® presented our Animal Services team with an award for their 2023 summer adoption campaign, a data-informed marketing effort that helped address shelter overcrowding by promoting pet adoption. PCAS just wrapped up their 2024 version of the same campaign, and were even more successful this year! They adopted 243 pets in June, a nearly 10% increase over last year (221) which was already a great success. About 40% of adopters who answered surveys said it was their first time visiting the Auburn shelter, and many heard about us through the advertising campaign. PCAS also had fewer intakes this year, meaning that their dog kennels are much less stressed overall going into the summer months. Thanks to our community for their support of our shelter!
