It's been quite the week at Swehl. After months of planning, we launched our "Just Add Milk" campaign with chef Molly Baz. Centered around a Times Square billboard, the partnership (like everything we do) was meant to infuse fun into the breastfeeding journey and inspire new parents to be empowered. After just three days, we were told the ad was deemed "inappropriate" and removed. Breastfeeding and pregnant parents are no strangers to their bodies being objectified, their decisions shamed. As we lead into Mother's Day, this highlights the extreme double standard and hurdles we face: Swehl's image of Molly, strong and empowered, is unacceptable, while across the city there are pictures of Jeremy Allen White in his Calvins being celebrated. Mothers can't win. You won’t find many people who’ve experienced anything but utter optimism and positivity from Swehl, but we are absolutely incensed. At the same time, it’s fuel because it reminds us: this is why we need to exist.
