September 21 is the International Day of Peace. To mark the occasion, various activities will be taking place in and around the Peace Palace from today throughout the weekend. The Just Peace weekend starts tonight, September 19, with a movie night. A documentary is currently being shown in the Peace Palace Auditorium highlighting the important work of the World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) and the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change. These young leaders have been campaigning for an Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the obligations of states' regarding climate change. In addition, an exhibition in the Visitors Centre highlights the impact of climate change on the lives and future of young people around the world. On Saturday, September 21, 125 children will join the Mayor of The Hague in depositing a time capsule with their peace wishes for the future in the garden of the Peace Palace. The following day, September 22nd, the Peace Palace will open its doors to anyone interested in international law (tickets must be reserved in advance). In a 75-minute programme, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Carnegie Foundation will present their work and the history of the Peace Palace and its organizations. We look forward to welcoming all visitors and thank Just Peace The Hague, The Hague Humanity Hub, World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) and Gemeente Den Haag for the great organization and cooperation. The Pacific’s perfect-temperatured waters, vibrant coral reefs, and lush landscapes are more than just breathtaking sights - they're the foundation of our Island life. However, #climatechange threatens our paradise! Urgent action is needed to establish strong frameworks and mechanisms to protect our islands and their wonders from further harm, restore what has already been damaged, and hold those responsible accountable. The #ClimateICJAO can play a crucial role in making this happen! #ClimateJusticeAtTheICJ

'Sili Vakarua' (bath twice). This is not just a saying here in #Fiji - but a harsh reminder that even when our loved ones are dead and buried - they are not at peace. Our loved ones are first bathed before we put them in the coffin, then they are bathed again when the rising seas enter the burial sites and flood the graves. Communities who have lived on their land for centuries, and have buried their ancestors in their burial site for centuries, now find themselves unsure of what to do as the ocean continues to swallow their land and everything in it. “Dear Judges of the International Court of Justice, will you hear Merewalesi’s call? ________________________________ ‼️The Witness Stand website is now LIVE! www.witnesstand.live This new platform amplifies the voices of those impacted by #climatechange featuring powerful video messages that are calling for #ClimateJustice as the #ICJ hears the #ClimateICJAO.
