Improperly Stored Passwords and Keys 🔐 A common way #threatactors gain privileged access is by searching for, and then exploiting when clients improperly secure system credentials. This enables the TA to use legitimate credentials to further her attack, which then appears to be legitimate user behavior in the forensic logs. Some recent examples from our cases: 📊 administrative passwords documented in an Excel spreadsheet 💬Amazon Web Services (AWS) access keys stored in Slack 👫sensitive data stored in work-collaboration platforms, company communication channels 👩💻open code repositories storing source material 💻privileged credentials embedded in a PowerShell script, stored on a misconfigured network share 🗝️credentials from password databases, browser password caches, and keychains TL;DR - don’t store creds in documents or chat rooms. #cyber #privacy Pierson Ferdinand LLP

On April 23, 2024, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted to publish its final rule banning noncompete provisions in employment agreements. Within hours, Texas-based company Ryan LLC sued the FTC in Texas federal court for preliminary injunctive relief and to block the Rule; and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce later joined that suit. In the weeks and months that followed, dozens of interested parties filed briefs in the lawsuit—some favoring injunctions and some backing the FTC.
