We will admit one or two young conductors from the Philadelphia area, ages 18-24, who are eager to learn about the ballet orchestra, how it is similar to other ensembles and how it is different. Apprentices will be mentored by Music Director, Beatrice Jona Affron, with whom they will explore musical and technical questions about works within and outside of the ballet repertoire. Apprentices will observe and assist with rehearsals in the studios and performances at the Academy of Music for a real, hands-on experience. In the News // The Corella Effect Corella stresses technical craft, interpretive artistry, but he also encourages dancers ‘to go for it’ to feel liberated within the movement. “For the dancers to do these masterpieces from these particular choreographers was a dream come true. You could see their joy even in the studio during rehearsals …their excitement of doing these masterpieces. And now with the same energy with ‘The Dream’ and ‘Prodigal Son’ .” Corella says that his dream is that audiences will come to see Philadelphia Ballet just for the fact that we have an incredible quality of dancing and quality of repertoire, so that no matter what ballet we are presenting, people will want to see it. ”
